howdy,

I’ve always used nail polish to remove paint from sights with success

I’d like to take the two white dots off the rear sight of my colt govt. I tried nail polish remover to no avail. They seem more robust than the paints I’ve encountered. I blacked them out with sharpies, but I’d prefer to get them out.

Any tips?

Try black nail polish.

You can remove that if you change your mind. Nail polish will fill the indentations better than sharpie.

Black nail polish can be had from your local Dollar Tree for well, $1.00

No need for a trip to the store! My wife’s nail polish collection rivals my firearm collection handily. She has this one UV bake on flourescent orange nail polish that I use on my fixed sight smiths that is amazing.

In my experience, just shoot it a bunch and they’re likely to fall out on their own... .

A couple of cycles in an ultrasonic cleaner has removed them on all of mine. Didn’t realize this until the dots were gone though lol

Testors model paint pens. I too hate the three white dot setup. I blacked out the rear and made the front red. Worked like a charm, looks excellent and sight acquisition is so much faster.

Found a solution

Sent the slide off to BEC for a harrison retro rear and golfball front sight.

A little pricier than some nail polish

You can always turn the sight around in the dovetail too.

I’ve used a torch to burn out the paint on a Millet GI rear. (Not mounted)
