Reworked Bul Armory Commander 1911- Fantastic!

To give you guys a little context, I am an average hobby shooter who has owned production level 1911s in the past (Kimber, Dan Wesson, etc.) and usually flipped them before carrying them much. I mostly carry Glocks now but am familiar with most of the other polymer guns as well.

This gun was purchased in late January with pretty much all my leftover Christmas money I had saved and you can see the original sale thread by clicking here. I bought it because I am a sucker for a top-notch bead blasted stainless gun, I actually like some of the modern styling on the pistol and it allowed me to get into a custom firearm for something approaching what I can afford. Interestingly, I posted the closing words ("I'll take it") while my wonderful wife was driving our family to church. :) At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much money on ONE GUN, but after my range trip and carrying it a few times, man, it was worth it!

These are all the 9mm ammo types I ran through the gun. I probably shot between 75-100 rounds. I began on paper at 3 yards (lay-up), moved to 7 yards and then finally to 15 or more. The gun was (no surprise) easy to shoot accurately if I focused and did my part. It was a pleasure to shoot.

The seller had suggested 124gr. ammo and that is mostly what I ran, though I did try out a few rounds of 115gr. just to see what would happen- no issues, flawless function! Excellent performance.... with both mags.

Started with 12 plates.... after ten rounds, had knocked down nine of them... I am a pretty sharp shot when I am on with my slimline Glocks but I have never been so accurate from first attempt on plates with a gun before. Like I said, easy to shoot well! Felt like I could repeat the same accurate shot time and time again, as long as I focused and did my part.

Safety was easy to operate without being overly firm or mushy. Grip safety was a non-event, which I count as a good thing. The trigger was very good and easy to operate when it was "fire time." The gun points naturally... the front sight just drops naturally into the rear and I am on target without fishing for it.

A fellow shooter tried convincing me that I need to go back to trying a red dot... no thanks! I am still able to see the front sight, I'll stick with this.

Very easy to conceal.... this was my biggest surprise of all. I am guilty of being a bit of a "keyboard carrier," someone who seems to know all about carrying a gun from their time at a computer. Well, wrong. You have to actually handle the gun and carry it!

This gun weighs nearly double what my slimline Glocks do but with the Nightingale holster I picked up here, it disappears. The weight is really not a problem. I believe I could carry 40+ oz. if needed.

To be honest, this gun has completely changed my outlook in carry guns. When I started out years ago, I carried heavy guns. We all did. But in the last 5+ years, the guns have become so small, so many of us stopped believing we could carry the large format guns. I now believe that to be a mistake. The 1911 makes it easy because of the slim profile and of course, my gun has been completely dehorned, so that helps a lot. I'm very happy with both the gun and the holster.

I will still carry my Glocks from time to time, but it is great to be able to use this as a primary.

Man, I am glad you like it and your photos of it look great(better than mine!). It is a slick gun and I think the reliability job I did on it would let it feed rocks. I trust you found the build sheet in case and if you ever need anything feel free to reach out. I got a new base gun I'm working on, I've got a bunch of forged parts, a kart barrel to hard fit and other goodies in-store for it. A couple teasers.....

Are you accepting any new work? Small jobs? I’m looking to have “carry butt treatment” done to my Wilson Combat CQB. Possibly a refinish in Hard Chrome also. Please advise.
1911s are a side gig/hobby, I've got 2 complete builds that I'm waiting on parts, some work on another forum members pistol, and I just got equipment out to start fieldwork and planting. I'm probably 3-4 mo out, the other issue is finding someone to hard chrome.

I'd suggest when posting pictures, click on "full size image" before posting.

Thanks for the info. I’m in no rush, and appreciate the honesty. I’ll send you a private message and we can talk more about details if you like. Very impressive work in my humble opinion.
