What do you plan on doing with it? Carry? Then the 4" is more manageable. Hunt? Then the 6". San Fransisco movie reenactment? Then the 6". Either can be good fun. I have both 44s.

You answered the question yourself, go with the 4" if that's what you like the most. You can always get a 6.5" down the road.

I'm trying to make the same choice as you. I'll probably go with the 4" since I have a large Ruger Super Redhawk. Also, I reload - if I had to shoot just factory ammo I probably wouldn't go with the 4".

 

Nice thing is the ability to shoot 44 Special. And I need to start reloading myself. Sounds like getting supplies is about as tough as getting ammo, or worse.

And it seems like most everyone is liking the 4 in.

Haha, I almost bought one used this past summer. The guy kept dragging his feet and by the time he decided he would sell it at a pretty good price btw I had changed my mind.

All things being equal the 4" will be worth a bit more, they haven't made as many.

I got the 5", but if I was in your shoes I would go 4", easier to carry.

 

I had a 5" and a 8 3/8" . The 4" was uncomfortable for me to shoot.

I voted for the 4”. That’s my favorite barrel length for a revolver. And in the N frame, it is what balanced best for me, both to carry and shoot accurately. Good luck in your decision.

 

Like an Addict I want both. But I'm not a rich addict. So, looking like the 4in. Plus, I can carry and it gives me an excuse to get one of these holsters. And belt to match. R Grizzle.

 

I like your style OldCuz. After a bit, I’ll pull my 686 3” and 625 4” PC and their respective Warbird holsters out and put up some photos. The 686 has elk antler magnas and a Tyler t, and the 625 has my favorite fancy English walnut Jordan Troopers.

 

I would be patient and find a lightly used pre-lock and pre-MIM version of either.

I has a 6 1/2" M57 (41 mag) and a 2 5/8" M629-6 (44 mag).
The 2 5/8" is more fun!

 

I voted for 4." I agree with SLAM37 wait for pre-lock versions then buy both.

My preference is the 4", but the older gun is a much better value and harder to acquire. You can always pick up a NIB 29 or 629 4" any time.
