SA-35...Extractor problems fixed?

I've been wanting one (dunno why, I have a great T-Series original) but all the talk of the extractor issues appearing around 850 rounds scared me off. Well, that and the stupid prices. o_O

I am seeing the prices come down to at least close to MSRP so my question is....

Has the extractor issue been fixed? I'm looking at one in the 10,000 serial number range.

I have one I acquired second hand about a month and half ago, HP66XX. The original owner bought it new in May 2022, he put 120 rounds through it with zero failures of any kind, I have since put another 500 FMJ & HP's 115 & 124's through it with zero failures of any kind either. So that's 620 total

I also have heard about the failures to extract in the 800 round range, so I have at least another 200 to go to see. I will say I am very pleased with the gun. If I do have a failure to extract I'll just get an upgraded extractor, replace it and keep rolling. I like it enough that if I run across one at a decent price, got this one at a very fair price, I'll most likely grab it.

I ran across a conversation on another BHP forum... here's a link to the thread and a teaser quote below:

Handguns and Ammunition said:
".. while it may look nice the functioning of this gun is horrid.ejector problem is quite prevalent.also slide lock problems and trigger
problems
.ran about 75-90 rnds thru.3 brands of ammo all had failures from the very first magazine to the last at least 4-5 per magazine
trigger has like a blank spot hammer begins to engage then blank then hammer reengages and finally drops.also after clearing no eject error
put mag back in and will not rack have to manually release slide lock.i got bent over big on this one.and with a serial no.of 13000+
kinda blows the theory on the early numbers thing to hell..
.
My low #3000 pistol is still unfired. I expect problems and yet I know there is nothing wrong which cannot be fixed... because it is a High Power.

Cheers,

Tim

Since the fix is so easy (replace the factory extractor and spring with either an original FN or one from Cylinder & Slide), I wouldn't worry. That's what I did with mine, and no problems. Easier to replace than the hassle of and cost of shipping back to SA.

Which costs you absolutely nothing.
I finally got to hold an SA-35, and I was quite favorably impressed with the feel of it. Very comfortable and ergonomic, the sights are inexpensive but nice. Trigger was nice.

Arrrgh. There was a consecutive serial numbered pair on GB. And they had 007 in the numbers (I know it's childish and weird...I collect guns I like that have 007 in the serial numbers  ). They sat at $1275 for three days and I was watching closely. I got distracted and missed the end of the auction!

The pair went for $1350 I think...so under MSRP.

Dammit. I'll keep looking, I spose. :ROFLMAO:

I have one serial number HP98XX. It’s run 1-1,200 rds without issue. I had one or two failures to go into battery, early on, but that seems to have fixed itself. I highly recommend the gun. It’s run everything from lead round nose, lead truncated cone, various JHP and FMJ loads from numerous manufacturers. Accurate as any Browning I’ve owned or fired.

Mine had to go back to SA in order to get it to run. I believe the extractor channel had burrs in it. Even after I replaced the extractor with a FN part, it did not run right.

While it was there, they did confirm that there was an extractor part change. My particular gun was made right around the time change was made the gun returned to me with what is to my eyes and FN part.

After they made the park, change the number of problems, guns seems to have gone down dramatically. I also believe that they changed the order of operation to prevent the cutting of the slide separations from narrowing the channel for the extractor. If you can find one for a reasonable price, I say go for it.
