Has any addict recently used shipmygun.com to ship handgun to builder/warranty service/repair? Where do you drop off the package with shipmygun label? I asked them and they say you still can drop off the package to UPS customer center. Not sure if this is still the case after UPS policy changes. Thanks for sharing any experience!

Shipmygun is a loophole at best. Technically speaking, you’re an individual using a third party’s shipping account, and that account belongs to an FFL who presumably has a service agreement with UPS. Soan FFL is sending the package...even though you’re just an individual dropping the package off. Are you comfortable with the fact that if something happens, the insurance payment is going to shipmygun? Are you confident they’ll reimburse you?

The new UPS terms do state that pre-labeled, prepackaged firearms that are being shipped by an Ffl may be dropped off at a ups customer center. So, like I said, this is a technical loophole at best. I may consider it for a low value shipment.

Use them all the time. Cheapest way to ship and never had a issue. They give you a letter to print off when they send you the packing label for you to use if UPS tries to give you a hard time about shipping a firearm. Never had to use it as I live in a very gun friendly area and state.

It seems that some are really making this thread confusing. Either use an FFL or Shipmygun, or, take your chances and ship it yourself or just stick to F-F transactions. I know this new ruling by the shipping companies is a real concern and I'm sure that makes some who use our classified ads to move guns and accessories to rethink about listing things. This seems to be a scheme to end personal sales between us over the internet. I have had a hard time trying to find an FFL to ship through but most around me either charge a crazy amount or just don't want to ship. I went and set up an account with Shipmygun cause it seems the most convenient for some.

(B7) May an unlicensed person ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?

An unlicensed person may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the SHIPMENT contains a firearm or ammunition… (Examples of common/contract carriers – all airlines and any transport company, to include packing/moving companies that transport household goods from State to State and who ship internationally)

[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a)(5), 922(e) and (f); 27 CFR 478.30 and 478.31] NOTE: This violation carries a prison term of five years and a $250,000 fine.

All of the above can be found in ATF’s Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide, ATF P 5300.4 or in the above mentioned ATF website.

I've got to wonder, has anyone ever been prosecuted for 'failure to disclose' to the carrier?
What if I tell the clerk at UPS that 'the pkg contains a firearm', it is accepted and then something happens.........
like if the pkg was stolen/lost and the gun used in a serious crime........

Will the clerk testify in my behalf?
Should I request a signature from the clerk, on a dated document, acknowledging my disclosure?

Would/could I be charged or held liable as an accessory?

These are tough times. Seems like felonies are handed out frequently.

Yes, I'm a bit scared.
So........I 'toe the line' in regards to firearms.

Maybe we have an attorney here that can relate relevant history?

Shipmygun is Buds Guns. I have spoken to their UPS rep and it is 100% legit. They are simply providing you a prepaid label under their FFL lic

They never take possession of the gun so they do not log it into their books if you are selling you must include your DL so the receiving FFL can log it in.

If you are sending it to a gunsmith for repair it is still your gun and can be returned directly to you.

How about talking to your FFL? Create the shipping label, and drop off the gun all packaged for him/her to ship....no?

Again this is just my understanding and reading. The "shipper" or the one creating the label has to be a FFL who has a registered account with Fed Ex or UPS. If you drop it off at your FFL for them to package and ship then they have to log it into their books. Then the receiving FFL has to log it in with their paper work. The gun must be sent back to you via FFL. You are adding 2 transfer one out and one back to send a gun to a custom smith in this scenario. The same would be true for warranty work which is why these days you have to ask or demand a prepaid shipping label IMO
