    Hi Folks,

As some of you know I've been looking at Les Baer 1911s recently. I wanted a government in blue, .45, 1.5", no front serrations, and a single side safety. Crazy John had some in stock, and mine arrived yesterday.

The gun was beyond tight, and I needed to "crack it before I could rack it". I followed Les' instructions to the letter, and shot 500 rounds of factory FMJ in a single sitting, oiling the rails and barrel every 100 rounds. I shot at one target at 25 yards (off-hand), and had a single 5" hole when I was done; I attribute this to the 1.5". The gun had no malfunctions, and smoothed out noticeably at 350 rounds. By the time I was at 500 rounds the gun had exceeded all my expectations; It definitely out-shoots me.

I spent a good part of today cleaning it, and made some interesting observations - The gun had obviously undergone extensive hand-fitting, and the tooling reminded me of 1911's I owned from the turn of the last century; Every functioning part had the serial number engraved on it. I think the barrel looks like a Kart, but I'm not sure. There was some thin bluing under the grips, but overall it was very presentable. Lastly, the sear-trigger-safety spring (or whatever it's called) had been shaped in a straighter fashion than I've seen before. I don't know if I'll keep it for ever, but the gun definitely has soul.
    Thanks for looking!

Congrats. On my want list also. One 5" hole at 75' is world class shooting in my book

    Nice gun and well done.
500 rds into 5” @ 25 yds, free style is exceptional.
The focus that requires approaches super human.

    Enjoy your Baer.

I shot at 25 yards. It's the final qualification distance for the police department I work for. We do it at lest 6 or 7 times a year.

They aren’t as refined as some, but I love my Baers. They are built like tanks, and have a feel all their own.

And yes, the barrel is Kart, that is Baer NM marked.

I would attribute it to the 1.5", frankly. While I can consistently hit at 25 yards, the grouping was the gun.

It was the 1.5", I'm sure. I can consistently hit at 25 yards, but the tight grouping was the gun.

Congrats! The worry about trying a Baer is behind you too. Sounds like you have a keeper.

Don’t be so sure it was just the 1.5” option. I’d bet it you would do the same with a standard (non 1.5”) Custom Carry. I’ve owned both the stnd and 1.5” and could not tell a difference. Either way, great shooting and thanks for sharing!

I have the same pistol and have shot just over 1" groups off sand bags at 50 yards. This was with 200 SWC and 4.2 of Bullseye. I got better groups with the Les Baer then my Bullseye 1911 built by Clark Customs.
