Side by side issue

I picked up a new Rock Island Side by Side 12G and after getting home noticed that the barrels will not lock down. It closes most down to about 1/16" but not enough for the throw lever to return to its locked position. Anyone ever see that before?

The only time I've seen similar issues is when there is a small piece of dirt/debris between the barrels and receiver. Good luck with this one.

I am not familiar with the Rock Island guns, so take this FWIW. I do own a bunch of sxs shotguns though.

Clean everything up, oil it up good, and try again.

Does it have ejectors? If so try assembly with the forend off as maybe the ejector cocking mechanism is honked up.

I cleaned it up real well earlier and found some debris and it closed all the way but the throw lever still is not completely resetting.

Thats normal
That doesnt seem to be full lock up....but I have actually never had a side by side before....shouldnt the lever return to center?
Yes I would agree that looks like it is normal. There is a lug in the action that engages the barrel block on a taper. As it wears the lug will enter the taper more, and the lever will move more and more to the left. Owners of OU and SxS guns like to see the lever to the right of center like you have. A worn locking lug is indicated by a lever that has centered or moved left of center.

If you are concerned put a little sharpie mark on the lug and see how much engagement you are getting.

Have a newish CZ that does that - their claim is that it is supposed to wear in. It is safe and secure on mine. Both old doubles the lever centers.

Ok, my concern was that it wasnt locked in enough to be safe to shoot.....learn something new everyday 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Looks normal to me. Put a little pressure towards center. If it’s tight or won’t move anymore I would say you’re good to go

On most break open shotguns, the top lever will move to the left as the gun wears. Proper care will slow the process. When I'm looking at used shotguns, that's one of the first things I look at. Almost all of my guns have the top lever still right of center.

I sent a pic of it to the Rep for RIA and they assured me all is well ;-)

As others have said, your sxs is fine. I handle many and sell a lot while at work and seems most are off center. It also confuses most potential buyers, so you're not alone. Enjoy that new sxs
Let one if your buddies shoot it first, just pick one that isn't important to and hand it to him. 😉

Just joking around, like other's have posted that is normal from what I've seen and owned they all were like that.
