Huge fan of the Professional Model and SACS. Legendary customer support? Lately it’s been SERIOUSLY lacking and virtually non-existent.

We don’t do this, we don’t do that anymore, and more. And that’s if you can get them to respond.

Really sad to see such a great custom shop turn into the new Colt or Remington.

Guess I’ll be sending my Pro to Nighthawk for work. End of an era.

Totally agree several years ago I've had a few of their pistols and needed parts and they graciously sent me the parts no questions asked. This was before I opened my shop as a gunsmith. Then in the last year I've needed parts for guns that I was working on for clients and they would not send me nothing. Period. Not so much as even a spring if I needed any parts or wanted anything done to the pistol I had to send it to them to have it done I asked the lady what was going on and she said that they've justChanged the way that they do things I would no longer be sending any parts out to anyone regardless of an FFL or not. I feel your pain believe me I know exactly what it feels like. Frustrating

I was looking at their revamped site last night trying to find the custom shop price list and what work they currently do. Never did find it. The last one I saw limited their work to SA products only.

yeah it sucks but they don't do customer based "custom work" any longer. Only working on their own offerings. I used them often years ago, but now never contact them. End of an era actually happened a couple years ago. Initially they said it was to catch up on their own custom firearms, the pro and custom carry, etc. And while there are definitely more "pros" available for purchase than ever before, FOR ME if I were going to plop down over $3k, it would not be for the pro.

In the days before YouTube university I bought an M1A. The owners manual was filled with dire warnings about what would happen if you took apart the gas system with the wrong tools or in the wrong manner. Being a young broke Sheriffs Deputy it took me a year to save for the gun so I sure didn't want to break it. I looked for a maintenance course and couldn't find one. I called them up and asked. No such offerings. I told them I was a local officer and asked if I stopped by, could they show me. Nope. Years later I placed a Department order for 6 1911's and one was for our left handed Sheriff. They offered a ambi mag release and the gun was ordered with one. When it got close to delivery time I emailed Lexi, their LE contact, and she confirmed the mod. The Sheriff,s gun arrived without it and back it went. When it returned the Sheriff noted it was hitting way left. Me and another RO confirmed it and inspection of the sights revealed the rear was not centered, or even close. We couldn't get it to budge. Something was oversized or undersized and they sent it out. Back it went. Massad Ayood wrote a glowing article about the loaded 9mm and I bought one. 18 FTE's out of the first two mags. Slide movement felt like sand in the rails and no amount of cleaning would get rid of the grit. I believe they used lapping compound to fit the slide to frame and abrasive got embedded in the steel. Shot different brands of ammo, different spring weights. Worked through 500 rounds, hand cycled it two hundred times. Nothing helped. This was a early gun with a non ramped barrel. I also did not know anything about extractor tension. Sent it back and it still wouldn't run. Sold it at a loss and haven't bought a Springer since. 38 Super baby! 3 guns from 3 companies, 0 malfunctions. I have been tempted many times (most recently by the Ronin) but can't get past my experiences of 15-20 years ago. Sounds like not much has changed.

The stories of poor performance by Springfield are piling up. I've had several with them, but the worst thing they did to me was when after waiting for 32 months for a Pro, Springfield refused to honor the price we had agreed upon when I placed my order.

I've had 7 SA 1911s, and now I only have 3 - 2 Mil Specs and 1 Combat Operator. These are the only ones that have never malfunctioned. The others did and are gone. I decided not to send them in after I sent in a LW Champion Operator for a simple fix and it came back almost 5 months later with other problems.

It wouldn’t be for anything with the Springfield name on it. Unless of course, it was built by one of own talented smiths.

Springfield has been dead to me since the whole collusion with the dems in 2017 about a licensing legislation that they lobbied for an exemption from. I don’t know what became of that.

Sorry for being off topic. The reduction in custom work and overall customer service may be a result of lost business??? I don’t know. I just know I won’t buy a gun from them. A used springer, maybe.

I recently sold a milspec to a forum member here. That gun never so much and hiccuped. I only put about 450-500 rounds through it and I know that isn’t enough to determine reliability. If it had been a jamo-matic, I would not have sold it.

That said, still will not ever purchase a new Springfield again.

I guess I'll be the stick in the mud. All my Springer's (Governments) 3 & 1 worked over by Wilson have been great. But I haven't bought a new on from them in a few years. I'm wondering if the gunsmith shop work aspect is from liability issues? But that's no excuse for shoddy workmanship.

It became law. The dem legislature passed it during a republican gov. term but held onto it until dem. J(elly) B(elly) Pritzker took office.

Skilled labor is really hard to find and then people complain about the price of service for labor. I can’t image trying to find skilled craftsman and keep them on staff to do the quality of work people are demanding now.

No wonder Springfield cut the custom shop offerings.

Sad to hear so many bad experiences with Springfield. I can honestly say that I have not had any issues (so far) with my two Elite Operators and really enjoy them. Granted I have replaced 90% of all the MIM parts but they do function well.

I had a small issue with the thumb safety on my second hand Pro this year. When I contacted SA they issued a shipping label before I could even explain the problem.
I figured out what was going on and fixed it in 10 seconds with a file.

The custom side of guns seems to be going away, most companies have gone to hell and their QC and customer service have gone away as well. Ran into that with Sig and was told by a rep there they are trying to keep up with demand of production guns and stuff is slipping through the cracks to meet all the back log of people wanting guns. Unfortunately for us, most people in the gun world are perfectly happy with an off the shelf gun they shoot once or twice a year and the companies are catering to them. I notice that the new production models quality is far worse than the same gun from 15+ years ago.
