I thought I’d share a little info on a rare STI model produced about 10 years ago. It’s the Total Eclipse. The TE has a 3” barrel and a proprietary 105mm grip that is the same length as a Detonics combat master.

The TE has like most STI’s a dual spring “Recoil Master” setup that makes the tiny pistol remarkably soft and easy to shoot.

Magazine capacity is 14+1 with a standard follower and you can get 15+1 with a competition follower (no slide lockback). The 105mm mags are not available anywhere as the gun was not produced for very long and not many extra mags were made while in production. Luckily I stumbled on a stash when purchasing my second TE.

To fit all the traditional 1911 workings into such a small package STI uses a proprietary shortened mainspring, mainspring housing, mainspring plunger and a smaller leaf spring.

I hear a lot of hoopla over the SIG365. I just don’t get it personally when I could have a TE. 1911 ergonomics, 1911 safeties, 1911 trigger, softer recoil and greater capacity in a smaller gun.

I compared it size wise in the photos to a Kimber Micro 9. The last photo below is comparing it to a STI Ranger I which has a Detonics CM sized frame.

(By the way I’m up to 4 Total Eclipses in the collection now, the one in the photos was my most recent one which was unfired NIB).

And now I need one...
They don’t come on the market very often. There’s one on GB now but it’s in 40.

If one comes up, buy it. Now that I’m at 4 I won’t be bidding on it

I see one in 9mm come up for sale every 12-18 months at best. GunBroker keyword search alerts can be your best freind. I have a bunch of stuff I’m waiting to pop up.

You had your chance! It was listed a few times without selling. I contacted the seller and he lowered the starting/buy it now price for me and I snatched it up! He did shoot down my first 3 offers in earlier auctions.

I picked this one up a few months ago. It was Total Eclipse #4.

There was one on GB in .40 that wasn’t moving. The seller kept resisting and lowering the reserve and it sold for $855!!!! Somebody got a hell of a deal!

I almost picked it up as a project gun but I won another auction the week before and I keep telling myself I need to move a few before buying any more. Speaking of which I have 3 STI double stacks in the classifieds with more to come.....

I would have especially for that ridiculously low price but:
A. I have 4 already
B. I don’t shoot .40 that much although I should have bought the gun as a parts gun
C. Too many guns coming in and not enough going out. I’m almost embarrassed to say how many STI’s I have now. I have at least 10 I’d like to move.

You answered your own question as to WHY the P365 is so popular when you can get this package. Availability! Your average shooter and not obsessed addict does not want a firearm that is extremely hard to find, doesn’t have mags readily available and is pricier just for an extra couple rounds!! 12 vs 14
That is my perspective, take it for what it’s worth.

Another thing about the 365 along with availability, is pricing (500-800; depending on what options like red dot or XL or standard version) and modularity.

kind of apples to oranges comparison if u ask me...

You seemed to have missed the 10th word in my original post. It is a rare gun and expensive. It was just an informative review on a gun most have never heard of.
