I decided I wanted to lose some weight and to help keep me motivated I would try and get a higher end 1911. I started looking but am falling short on what to look at that's in my budget around 1-1.5k. I figured at that price range I can look for something with all the features I want.

    Single Side safety
    Snake scales
    Bob Tail

I wanna take a look at officer and full size 1911's

in 45 and 9mm the purpose of this gun is SD/Carry/Range

I like the valor V-Bob but still wanna know what else is out there.

Dan Wesson Guardian will fill the bill.....but it will not have the snake scales.

This came up in another thread and the guy went for a STI I believe, but I don't see a bobtail. S&W an/or SIG are options as well. I would go with a SS VBOB and never look back. Ron

Under $1.5k, the VBOB is hard to beat. If you want 9mm, get the Guardian. If you aren't deadset on the bobtail, also check out the CCO. All 3 are excellent EDC choices. :thumb:

That would be you best choice. Then you can send it to Dave Helton for a Snake Scale job... He does great work! http://www.dvsmallarms.com/

Can he do the scales on a Aluminum frame?

For what you are looking at I would do a Guardian 9mm. I may pick one up sooner than later at this point.

Dave must be REALLY good if he can do scales over the checkering on the Guardian's FS.

    Yes.
This is what the problem would be. The Guardian is already checkered and isn't thick enough to remove the checkering then add the scales. But, you could buy an aluminum framed gun with a smooth frontstrap and have it scaled as well as bobtailed. :thumb:

hate to say it, but a Kimber Pro Carry 9mm, then send it out for work IF you must have all the thing's listed.

If you can compromise, then the DaWG, which is available in 9mm and .45CP

If it has to be a steel frame, then a DWValor .45ACP in SS.

Then there's a STI Ranger II (9mm & .45ACP), and get work done, though it has scallops.

BTW, snake scales is usually has the lest grip compared to scallops and checkering.

I think the V-Bob is your best bet.
