I have always thought that tanto blades were cool, but the cowboy in me was never to excited to pursue making them. A few weeks ago a member here contacted me about a pair of them, so I did. While they were both insanely sharp and cool knives, I started thinking about using a hollow grind. I have only made one knife so far with a hollow grind and it was one of the first few mini cleavers that I made. Since then my time on the grinder has taught me a lot, so I thought it's time to free hand a hollow grind. In addition to that I also just figured out how to get fuller's, or blood groves, in a blade. So yesterday it all sort of came together and this was the result. No idea on the measurements because I really like to have something in my hand to determine the dimensions for what I plan to use it for. I think that this is a bit to big to be an EDC knife, but it does have all the size needed to be great at about 75 percent of the task a knife is asked to do.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts and any places that could be improved.

Eventually yes. Right now I am a bit behind on a few orders and that drives me nuts. However I have also had to make the decision that the six kids get the weekends, at least while the sun is up. But yea, I like this and feel like it will be a great size. Thanks everyone!

    Great work.

I love tantos, one of my favorite affordable tantos & regrets in selling was the spyderco bob Lum tanto, razor sharp & outstanding stabber.

That would be my ideal grind right there.

I love the overall grind but I would sharped the grind line at the tip. Big fan of nice crisp lines in a knife. Been looking at your stuff and I am thinking hard about getting one. Do you only do Kydex sheaths? Nice work

Looks like a good design, and just about right on the size. I'm 6'3" with 2XL paws. :)

That's an excellent hollow grind. I like them, my first being an old made in USA Cold Steel Recon Tanto. The Recon model was the cheaper, less well finished model; but the steel was the same as that used in the better finished ones.

I don't think the Fuller on yours is necessary; other than to show off your (considerable) skills.

Anyway, I got this one about 35 years ago, and as can be seen; it’s been sharpened a few times. It’s busiest day was many years ago, when it field dressed and quartered four deer in one day; and was still shaving sharp after all the work was done.

That said; I’d much rather have one of yours...

    Good call Sir!

The work will always be there; but the kids will be all grown up and gone before you know it. Some of the best times you and they will ever have are right now; but it's up to you to make it happen...
