I try to avoid giving out credit card info when shopping online out of fear that my info will get stolen. So, I've been using PayPal whenever possible as a form of online payment.

Today I ordered a pair of shoes from Salomon. I used PayPal. After the transaction when through, I get a receipt from Salomon and another from PayPal, as I normally would. This time, however, I actually checked the totals on each receipt. I discovered that Salomon applied sales tax to my order, and then PayPal applied sales tax again when it processed the transaction. I got taxed twice.

Now, maybe Salomon is actually the one to blame for this. Perhaps they're supposed to let PayPal collect the sales tax when they're used as a payment method. But I'm inclined to blame PayPal for this. After all, if I were to have paid directly with my credit card, the credit card company would not have collected the sales tax.

I only lost a few dollars because of this. Still, it's irritating as hell.

    And you bought shoes...

    Clothing shouldn’t even be taxed

Paypal deducts money from your account per the seller's charges. I'm not an expert but I noticed that the high cabin fever I've been running is slowly turning into a mild depression, your post exhibits some of the same symptoms I am detecting.

My son went out to his car this afternoon and found someone took a bat to his windshield and struck it four times, that's irritating.

Tax on clothing varies by zip code.

Your more than welcome. I read your tea leaves cause we seem to enter a new era of whining about nothing on the forum. Dr Phil could be construed as name calling by a person with smaller shoulders.

    Yikes!!!!!
I'll go a couple steps further.
If a seller asks you for payment via Paypal Friends and Family,
so as to save himself 2 or 3%,
tell him you are not a liar or a cheat,
and that he can keep his goods.

You should have been taxed three times for buying from an offshore manufacturer like Salomon

PayPal has been a “no go” for me since their first major security breach years ago. Just not going to allow them access.
