I try to avoid giving out credit card info when shopping online out of fear that my info will get stolen. So, I've been using PayPal whenever possible as a form of online payment. Today I ordered a pair of shoes from Salomon. I used PayPal. After the transaction when through, I get a receipt from Salomon and another from PayPal, as I normally would. This time, however, I actually checked the totals on each receipt. I discovered that Salomon applied sales tax to my order, and then PayPal applied sales tax again when it processed the transaction. I got taxed twice. Now, maybe Salomon is actually the one to blame for this. Perhaps they're supposed to let PayPal collect the sales tax when they're used as a payment method. But I'm inclined to blame PayPal for this. After all, if I were to have paid directly with my credit card, the credit card company would not have collected the sales tax. I only lost a few dollars because of this. Still, it's irritating as hell.
