I don't know about anyone else but, I absolutely dread tax time and to be honest I haven't gotten a return since I got disabled 5 years ago, but even when I was a candidate for some decent returns I still hated the process. I had an accountant do my taxes for about 18 years when I had my construction business, but after I shut down and ended up on SSD he still was trying to charge me as if I was a business owner sorry but, I cannot afford $500 to get a standard 1040 taxes done.

So, long story short for a few years I tried a couple people referred to me, but what a nightmare, year before last the woman took nearly 3 months to do my taxes and when I finally picked them up and paid I took a copy somewhere and dropped it off, they later called me and said your return has nothing but Zero's in it across the board. I thought WTH.. So, I hadn't sent it in yet but, she had e-filed it. So, I go back and she has to file an extension and redo the taxes. I owned a few properties then and had sold one and her excuse was you told me you sold your properties. Now keep in mind this woman got a detailed income and debt report by me totally itemized. So, then I found a $10,000.00 mistake on the extended return and then finally third time was a charm, I was so mad at that point cause I needed my taxes for a loan, and when I went in to finalize the last set she had 4 people in her office to defend her I guess, she must of thought I was going to go crazy on her stupid @$$ I sure felt like it. Then she had the nerve to say see you next year. And my exact words were like Hell you will..

So, last two years Turbo Tax and it's been great. I mean to tell you I did my taxes Fed and State, took me all of an hour.. I got a small, and I do mean small return, wasn't even enough to pay for the service lol but, almost.. So, if you haven't tried it and your tired of these damn inept tax prepares I would highly recommend it. It's cheap and easy...

Turbo Tax for me too. It's worth every penny, and it's cheap compared to a hiring a human tax specialist.

My turbo tax is broken. Every year it says that I owe more money.

Next year will be a bit tougher and bit more expensive with the business end of my gunsmith venture, but still will be a lot better then the aggravation of dealing with someone who just thinks they know how to do taxes who the hell puts all zero's in a tax return? lmao

My lawyer's office does my tax and since he charges me for that pleasure he makes sure I get enough back that I can pay him and keep myself in Maxwell House coffee & Prince Albert cigarette tobacco.

I would of liked to of continued to use my accountant, and as good as he was with the numbers he just couldn't seem to figure out that SSD income could not afford a $500 tax bill when I was getting zilch back..He did graciously discount the last one down to $380 and I never went back afterwards. Turbo was $124.98 to e-file both Fed and State returns.

Damn reading this I feel like I am getting ripped off.. I've paid my accountant 650ish for the last decade.. Then again I don't earn a single cent in America, all my income is foreign, so it is a little different I suppose..

I switched from using an accountant to doing it myself with TurboTax in 2005, never looked back.

I have been using turbo tax for a few years now and love it. I am paying a third of what I used to pay someone to prepare my taxes.

What I also like if I need a return from a few years back, all I got to do is log on and retrieve it.

I appreciate you bringing up a thread on this. My CPA has inched up each year to $400 fee for a relatively simple tax form filing. I've heard about Turbo Tax for years, think I might get brave enough to give it a try next year. I've been on the CPA nipple for 30 years, difficult to let go but definitely need to make a change.

Turbo tax for 11-12 years, won’t use anything else. I did my taxes the second year I used TT which were more complicated than the first year I used it. Well I was real hesitant with the values it gave me so I took my taxes and had them done by a professional and they had the exact same final numbers but cost me triple what TT was. I wont use anything else now.

This is a bit of an eye opener for me. Both of my dad's brothers are CPA's so I've never paid and it's very informal. Drop off my stuff and get free dinner, swing by the office to sign and have a cocktail, check shows up in the mailbox. I've always appreciated it but never knew what it would usually cost. First the government tells you to bend over and grab your checkbook, and then the guy who's supposed to be on you side does. On the other hand my uncle won't let me write off a new thermal scope as a work expense. Stuff gets hot at work, I need to know how hot!

I'll probably use free Turbo Tax for my youngest daughter. I've used an accountant for decades. This year I owe $3,500 - guess the tax cuts don't apply to me. And my oldest is getting $3500 back - F'me running. I probably paid double in taxes what she earned. Crazy how the tax system works.

I will more than likely be paying Sri Lanka's GNP to Uncle Sammie in taxes this year. For the first time, company paid moves are not tax free. So, when you include the movers; a small lump sum; house selling assistance; and a host of other things... I'm writing a check for well over the value of 2 Chen customs. Because of that, I'm using the same CPA I've used for years. Not because I can't do it myself, but if I ever get into hot water for something (which I'm always on the up and up on my taxes) he get's hauled into court as well. He'll know a LOT more about that stuff than me, so it's more of a reassurance.

CPA here and I use turbo tax. Lots of people complaining this year about not getting a return but they likely paid less in overall tax. I say this all the time, if taxes weren’t directly deducted from payroll there would be another tea party every frigging year come April. I agree with what trump did ending the subsidiaries at the state level but it now really sucks to live in a cuckhold state like Connecticut, salt in the wound

I haven't paid a tax preparer since 1968. Wrote my own tax prep sheets using Excel and used them for quite awhile until making all the mods each year became a major PITA. I've been using Turbo Tax for the last 16 years with very few problems. I just wish they'd make a version that would handle the Form 1041 - Estates & Trusts.

Dump Turbo Tax. You are sending all of your financial information into "the cloud."

Use H&R Block. Same general pricing, all of your data stays on your PC. Similar interview interface.

Huge security concerns for me with those Turbo fools. Wait until the hackers discover them . . . . . .

I've been using tax software since 1988. First Parson's, then Tax Act, Turbo Tax (until they went cloud based), and now H&R Block.

H&R gets it when it comes to security. The others don't.
