10/22 is the only one I can suggest.

My brother has a 10/22 so as far as sibling rivalry goes I can not suggest one. ;)

He has never had an issue in about a million rounds but my vote always goes Marlin 39A.

    I have a Belgian Browning 22 Auto, circa 1964 that I covet.

Other than that, I shoot a CMMG dedicated 22lr AR upper on an Aero Precision lower I built up. The beauty of this is that you can go with a few different caliber uppers, if you want, and you don't have to touch your other "dedicated" 5.56 AR(s).

It's not the most cost effective setup, but I really enjoy it.

Ruger 10/22 but then you have to decide which of what seems like a thousand variations you want.

That is absolutely true! For truck gun, get the standard and leave it be. For fun, accurate, hunting look for the LVT version. It is sweet!

I own 3 10/22's. One since I was a child in the mid 70's. Probably the best selling semi-auto .22 of all time, but these are rifles that can evolve along with your tastes. If you can turn a screwdriver and a 5/32 allen wrench, read this book and you can build a tack driver that suits you. I custom bubba smiffed this one a few years ago. GunwaySnakeskin1022.jpg

Ruger American Rifle is nice. Picked one up for my son on his 4th birthday. He loves it and it shoots very well.

I know these are under-rated... what about an older marlin/glenfield model 60
Mine have always been tack drivers and they are great all around for hunting/plinking.

I would recommend a CZ-455. Solid gun for the money.

I just started a full custom 10/22 build. Starting with a Feddersen action and barrel. You should check them out. You can build a 10/22 exactly how you want it.
My AR22 is "finicky", The 10/22 will be a more reliable semi-auto.

A CZ 455 is the most commonly upgraded bolt action .22

I would go for one of those if you are looking for a target or trainer build

The sweetest-shooting, hardest-hitting, most accurate .22 rifle I've ever shot is the Winchester Model 63 that I inherited from my dad. If I had to sell everything else, I'd keep that one.

But you could buy about a dozen 10/22s for what you'd pay for a nice Model 63 nowadays, so I guess I'd recommend the 10/22.
