I carry a TCP in 45 acp every day! At the moment my carry round is a Underwood 230gr +P. It packs in a TT Gunleather Reinforced Mike's Special IWB. I have (2) other DW Valors. One a 10mm and the other a VBOB in 45 acp. IMHO, the best 1911 for the $$$$. I'm running the DW/Checkmate mags and Tripp Research (8) round Cobra Magazines. I think the TCP is Dan Wesson's best kept secret.

How is the recoil on the tcp compare to the 10mm valor
Just my observation and opinion the TCP "may be" recoil a bit more than my Valor VBOB in 45 acp but not much more. I'm fortunately not recoil sensitive and have been shooting since I was 10 years old so recoil isn't a factor really. The TCP is a shooter to be sure and with the bull barrel that little bit of weight out in front does mitigate recoil to a degree. 45 acp, at least for me, doesn't have anything near the violent recoil as my S&W M29-2. The TCP if you have any normal strength in your hands and arms can control the recoil easily.

To answer your question about my 10mm Valor it has a bit more of a snap or pop and it is a 5 inch barrel. The recoil on that gun is different than the TCP but 10mm recoil isn't violent in the least.

I've never had any FTF or any other issues with it while shooting. I did have a few FTF when it was new loading a JHP with a flatter nose like a 200gr Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger or the Underwood 230gr that I'm carrying in it now. My TCP is a very low round count (under 120 rounds) and it now runs like a Swiss watch. The initial loading was 8 rounds in the magazine, load into the gun and drop the slide. that was the hang up. Now everything has smoothed out and it feeds everything I put in it.

As @Trencher said your other option is a Specialist and they are quite cool and to be clear I wouldn't mind having one of those too. The grip and overall feel of the TCP , for me, feels like the TCP was made for me. Another upside of a Specialist is you can get it in a Government or Commander length and Dan Wesson now makes it with an optic cut. Decisions!, Decisions!!!!

I did look at the specialist, but I would end up switching to a bull barrel and a flat trigger. Visually the tcp ticks all my boxes. So the perfect out of the box would be the specialist frame and tcp top end and in 10mm would be perfect.

Like I stated, I'm thinking of the tcp as my first entry into the world of 45acp.
That's how I felt about the TCP. It just checks "most" of the boxes for me. I carried my 10mm Valor for probably 18 months as an EDC. It's a great gun and in 10mm it will drop most anything that's walking around!
