I stopped in at my local gun shop today
You know just “ browsing “ and I came across this little beauty. SDS Stingray in 9mm . Well I couldn’t help myself and put her on a short layaway, I guess I can wait a month ……. Anyways I thought I would share my soon to be addition to my addiction. I know a few of you guys have bought them , so how are they doing?
I’m not sure how the Turks are building such a nice pistol for the money. It will be interesting to compare it to my Guardian.

I bought one last month. Good gun, but I'm probably going to let mine go. I've just been too lazy to post pics and list it. I bought a Colt 9mm commander to replace it. It worked with every mag I threw at it.

Nice but why sell it ? Just add it to the addiction

I have no intention of being rude but I don't understand why they didn't hire just one dude who has experience with America before they chose to name their company Tisas.

Yes, I know the world does not revolve around the USA but it certainly does for gun sales. Tisas is such an odd name, it doesn't roll off the tongue eloquently. Everyone seems to report that these are great budget guns and I believe them but it seems like $50 worth of market research would have swayed them to name themselves something that would be more commercially appealing.

Look at Rock Island Armory, this is a Filipino company and they frickin' nailed it for a gun manufacturer name that is marketable to Americans.

Canik is another one. Very good pistols but the name could have been done better.

They were an existing firearm company already. They just didn't change the name to play n the American market. It's some Turkish acronym, or contraction (I can't remember now). It's not like they took that name for this country.

I read and pronounce it as tits-ass. Possibly the only things I like more than guns. Don’t own any because ef that country but the name isn’t an issue.

I guess the acronym very roughly translates to Trabzon (a Turkish city) Weapon Industries Inc.

Are they 9mm/.40 breachface slides… or 9mm only?
The "simple" answer to the @frankiestoys question "I’m not sure how the Turks are building such a nice pistol for the money. " is...

Because they actually have been doing it for a long time and the cost of manufacturing being fairly low when compared to the US.

At the end of the day I believe, the gun you @frankiestoys put on layaway is well made for the price it is sold for, it comes with a decent warranty/support being a foreign brand and it is damn good looking.

Buy what makes you feel comfortable and be confident with your purchase.

Now the "more detailed" answer for anyone interested to read.

Turkish small and large arms industry has been around for a very long time and has been producing both originals as well as registered clones, for the most part, under government control. Their knowledge comes from a combination of original ideas and what they have learned from decades of cloning European brands like H&K.

Turkish craftmanship and attention to detail for any "Custom Item" is very well know in the region as well as in Europe. There are several custom manufacturers in Turkey that has been building high-end pistols and rifles for a very long time. They are mostly known for custom engraved and tuned, heirloom pistols and shotguns.

Privatization of the government factories and implementation of new laws, allowed private weapons manufacturers to flourish in Turkey. Canik, Tisas, Girsan and SAR are most known Turkish pistol brands in the US market. These brands heavily target the US market and place themselves at a "well balanced gun for price to quality level."

The "demand" in the US market along with some inter government agreements, which I am not well versed in, allowed these private companies to expand to the US, market and sell their products and most importantly; offer warranties and service support.

Name of some of these companies do not sound American at all. In fact different pronunciations can sound pretty funny. Reason is, these companies have existed for a long time prior to making entry to the US market and they did not feel the need to change/adapt their well established company names. There are multiple international brands, US customer consume, that sound pretty interesting. From another perspective, why would Coca Cola change their name in other countries they sell.

There also has been an increase in the Turkish manufactured ammunition in the past few years. However, the quality level of the Turkish ammunitions has not been as consistent as the Turkish guns. Actually, some of the Turkish branded ammo were manufactured in the US.

Congratulations!

The black grips look more tactical and the red/brown looks more classic to me.

Nevertheless, I like the red/brown more as the black/gray in them goes nicely both with the black slide and the gray frame. It also adds a nice color contrast.

Interested in hearing the comparison.

People have a way of getting used to things if they perform. I thought my Sig P239 was strange looking st first, it was my first Sig, but when it was flat out reliable and accurate after a while I figured it looks just fine. That Tisas CBOB looks nice.

I have a feeling this thread is going to lead me to picking one of these up, especially since my LGS runs sales on Tisas all the time.
