I am wanting to replace the two piece factory guide rod on my Prodigy 4.25. Normally I toss out FLGRs in favor of GI setups in all my 4" and longer 1911s. Yes I did mean 4" and not 4.25". But for this gun I wouldn't mind keeping that bit of extra weight up front. I am also kind of liking being able to just slide the top end off then back on without having to fight the spring when I am working on the lower half. While I was initially wanting to go GI on this gun I am warming up to the idea of a FLGR. I just don't want to have to use tools.
I like the idea of the tool less guide rod. That is a great invention that actually is beneficial. I am not good at keeping my paper clip handy and then have to ask the misses for a new one and get that look. The tool less setup would certainly remedy that.
The thing is, I really like using flat wire springs. I am wondering if there are any 1/4" full length guide rods that do not need some sort of extra tool, be it paper clip, allen wrench or plastic holders etc? Are there any commander length FLGRs for flat wire springs that won't need a tool?
