Does anyone train with pistols other than the ones they would carry? If I know I will never carry a particular gun I can't really get into training with it. Is there a reason you would train with a gun other than a carry pistol other than for fun? Is there a technical reason to do so?

Other than 2 or maybe 3 revolvers that I have held onto, would have to count as I dont remember off the top of my head, I dont own anything that I wouldnt be able to / feel comfortable carrying.

Some folks like to have "range toys", I get it but not for me thanks

I have a few hunting handguns. Yes, they are impractical for carry. No, they are not terribly impractical for defense. The real fun, if you want to have some fun, is take a modern defensive pistol class with a revolver. And do a few stages of a 3-gun match with a bolt action, a 5-shot pump, and a single stack .45.
That will wake you up to your training.

Absolutely. I have doubles of a couple and other 1911's set up exactly like the ones I carry. No good reason to put extra thousands of rounds through proven carry guns for the sake of wear. I do shoot all the guns I carry but usually sub for a likeness for a class or weekend shoot.

I run drills everytime I go to the range and I am always seeking out new drills .
My IDPA pistol and my carry guns are what I run. My other pistols I usually just shoot at 2” or 3” shoot n c targets at 8-10 yards .

I almost exclusively shoot my carry guns. I can’t carry more than four different guns. A P938 and three 1911s. I’ve got a few revolvers that get shot occasionally but mostly just the 1911s that I carry and maybe a couple more that I might be getting to rotate onto my permit.

I shoot and train with all my guns, revolvers 1911s and striker fired plastic stuff. The only gun I don't train with is my S.A revolver in colt 45. Let's be real, I some times fumble changing magazines, imagine loading up a S.A. revolver in the heat of a firefight with some bonehead with a Glock.

No. I train with my self-defense guns and everything else I shoot for the fun of it.

Training with a competition dedicated gun is great for gamers. That would be the only reason. I'm far from a gamer and only shoot my backup carry gun in large round count classes or in games.

Nope, I only train with my carry guns.

I honestly try to stay proficient with every weapon I own.
First, it's just plain fun to shoot them. Variety is after all the spice of life.

Next, you never know what the future may bring. I'm not one of these apocalyptic guys that thinks there is a Civil War coming or that the end of the world coming or that there is a bad guy around every corner, but I don't discount it either.

Finally, I'm retired Corrections I can't tell you how many times I've run in to former inmates on the streets. As a matter of fact I just ran in to one yesterday. Most are fine just moving on with their lives but the possibility of meeting that one always exists.

The only gun of mine I don't carry is the Sig P320 X5 Legion, you are all familiar with the various threads on the 320 in other forums, although mine is less than a year old. I use that primarily for IDPA. All my other guns I carry at various times. I train with them all.

I, too, can understand and support range toys, but I don’t own any. I carry a P938, 1911 CCO, or a BHP, so those get the most use in training. I have a couple S&W M&P 9mm with lights and red dots for bedside guns, and I try to train with them just as much as my carry pistols, but truth be told my carry pistols get more range time. I’ve just dipped my toes into wheel guns, and have started carrying a Smith snubbie on occasion. Needless to say, I’ve tried to train

a LOT with that one. I also have a SP101 for easy carry in bear country, and I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of a Smith 28. I realize the need for lots of training due to the differences in the manual of arms, trigger pull, sights, etc. between the various platforms.
