For pure performance, definitely not. SRO window size is still significantly larger than the RMR HD. It's more of an improvement to the standard RMR if anything - top load battery, larger window size but fairly standard/comparable to something like a Holosun 507c (slightly bigger). But the same level of durability as the RMR, which is where the SRO falls a bit short just given its design

The key interesting feature for the RMR HD is the front facing light sensor for auto brightness, which is supposed to actually work in mixed lighting conditions (standing in dark room shooting into light or vice versa / flashlight in dark). I had an RMR HD for a bit, and it works, but in my experience isn't a full game changer either. I found auto brightness kept the dot visible but not ideal - too bloomed in bright settings and too dim in very dark settings for my preference (still visible though).

I returned my RMR HD since I bought it off Amazon and could get full refund. It's a good optic but not worth the $650 they're going for right now. Once it hits <$500 I think it would be more worth it
would you take the rmr HD or the 508T's?

I personally have come to love the Holosun 507 Comp. I believe it directly competes with the HD. For $369 red and $399 green, I think it's packs a huge value with a massive window. I also love the ergos of the unit compared to some like the DPP.
and Battlehawk has offered $100 gift cards with purchase, so if you need something else from them, effective price of $269 for red and $299 for green is a lot of optic for a very small price. As I type this, I don't know why I keep buying more SRO's and RMR's. We are a group of brand whores sometimes (me among us of course)

That said, I have several holosuns and am very happy with them. In fact, the only optic I have that I don't love is the RMR. I was cleaning all of my optics yesterday and (once again) saw how ridiculously blue tinted the optic window is on the RMR. I was cleaning several holosuns and SRO and my 1 RMR and it stood out strongly. And...of course, because I'm sorta dense, I just bought another RMR today because they are $413 on sale. There's no explaining me sometimes. (I also dislike the need to take the optic off to replace the battery, but I trust the RMR to be the most reliable/durable on my carry guns and, well, it looks nice and compact, so there's that)

I have three HD's and I really like them. I'm not sure if they are "better" than the SRO, but I like them for the positive feedback when using the buttons and a more "sleeker' profile compared to the SRO. If I were competing, I think the SRO would have the advantage.
great point, I hate that the buttons on the RMR and SRO simply do not tell you if you have hit them or not...gotta put the gun/optic up to your eye to confirm the brightness is changing...

I don't think you can go wrong with the HD. I'm running 2 SRO's and a RMRc. I want to get my hands on the RCR next.

have the RCR and I like it a lot but end of day it's just a dot.. a bigger clearer window than the RMR and rain proof so at the off chance it's raining inside my range< i'll probably still be able to acquire dot and poke holes in paper or ring iron, umg outside, under threatening skies.

i am interested in the RMR HD tho as I like the multiple dot options and the auto brightness.. for when it's not raining, inside my range and I want to put a ring around the dot, in varying light condions, without having to touch the (+/-) buttons. ;D

i thnk for where I live.. not Portland, Seattle or Central AM during the rainy season etc..between having an enclosed emitter or not and not having to use either during a downpour to defend myself.. I'd rather have the auto brightness and ring/ dot options but idk.. hopefully I'll never have to use it for anything but poking paper and ringing iron.

my real question is why didn't Trijicon offer a light sensor and dot/ ring options on both? and when will the enclosed emitter w ring/ dot be coming to market?

Second question, obviously is how long after they launch the new multi-feature enclosed dot, will they actually be available in the market, not dribbled out like.. well like they launched the HD and RCR?

GA Firing Line doesn’t sell to California, New York, or Washington. That’s why they’re still available.

From their website.

NY, CA, and WA state laws make it impossible for Freedom Firearms Inc dba GA Firing Line to ship items to any individuals or FFL holders who reside in those states. Under these laws:

  • Companies who sell firearms or firearm-related items (ie, scope rings) are liable for damages if any person "comes to harm" (ie, drops scope rings on their toe) in any incident involving that item.
  • The individual who sells and ships any firearm or firearm-related item to NY or CA is personally liable for damages if any person "comes to harm" in any incident involving that product.
  • CA state law specifies no time frame for these rules; the law could be applied retroactively to make our company liable for damages involving items shipped to CA even before the law's effective date.
  • Washington state law contains a stipulation that does not require a plaintiff to prove willful noncompliance to convict a defendant under their firearm-related law.

Thanks for posting. Always good to know what companies to avoid. I have ways around it sure, but I don't like supporting companies that hang our brother and sisters out to dry.

Well, they're the only ones who have the RMR HD right now. I had a nice conversation with one of the main guys there. They don't hate on any of the Blue states. They had a few unpleasant experiences involving costly litigation and it was basically a business decision which they felt could impact their economic survival. I told them to just shut down all business with states for which there is a huge market might be a tad extreme. He told me they're working on a solution. Being in California I've occasionally run into this situation with online vendors where they just don't want to deal with risky states. Usually it's the smaller vendors where the volume they do can't offset the cost of even one litigation.

I understand and respect their position, but stand by mine when I can.

I wanted a Strider folder for years but learned what a dirt bag he was after I bought one and promptly sold it.

I vote with my wallet. Why I will be buying 3-4 RMR HDs as soon as I can find them around $600 each from a retailer that supports the resistance here in norkal. Ef anyone who hangs us out to dry. Willing to pay a bit more to avoid them, much like I'm willing to pay more for a trijicon vs an arguably superior holosun.

This is why small companies worry about issues like this. Steel Fox was local to me and I've bought several guns from them. Now they're gone because they supported people's freedoms.
