My second 1911 was a used 1991, owned it a little over ten years ago. I shot with some guys that had Kimbers and they always gave me crap about my ugly pistol. I ended up selling it but that gun was always reliable and helped me get through the early stages of learning to reload. Always regretted selling it even though I’ve had much nicer guns since then. Fast forward ten years and I bought another out of nostalgia and have used it for carry. I decided to send it to John Harrison earlier this year to replace alot of the original parts. Kept the barrel(he did replace the bushing with a Bunker), slide stop and grip safety but replaced everything else. He installed his parts, did some reliability work and a trigger job. Also did a Yost front sight, his retro rear and broke the edges on the grip safety which made it much more comfortable. I opted not to refinish purely out of nostalgia so it’s not pretty(note that the idiot scratch was not from me!) It runs great and it’s nice to have a sleeper. I picked it up from John in person and that was a great experience. He’s a fantastic guy and full of knowledge. It’s back in the carry rotation and using it for this months drill. No real point to this post other than I wanted to share. Pic on my 75 CJ5, both are ugly and both run great!
