Ultralight 1911s... a Working List

1910 Views 42 Replies 24 Participants Last post by  jacobconroy75
Good evening all. I got a little bored this afternoon and began doing some research. A Glock 17 weighs about 22 ounces and of course, we all know that weight is not the only factor in a concealed carry gun, but it is a factor for many. I began researching and will list all the 1911s that I found that are 25 ounces or less in unloaded weight. Please feel free to jump in with comments correcting those I found or pointing out others I missed.

Here are the 1911s I have found so far that are:

a) 25 ounces or less in unloaded weight
b) are still being produced (no discontinued models)
c) can be purchased legally in the United States

1. Colt Defender (also Elite Defender- same weight)
2. Dan Wesson ECO (sadly is discontinued)
3. Kimber- all the Ultra models
4. Rock Island Ultra CS-L
5. Rock Island Ultra CCO
6. Springfield Armory Ronin EMP- 3" model only
7. Staccato C2 (2011)
8. Staccato CS (2011)
9. Wilson Combat SFX9 3.25"- 10-round model only
10. Bul 1911 Ultra
11. Bul SAS II Ultralight

Thanks for your feedback on this. Posting in the hopes of sparing anyone else the time hunting for an ultra lightweight 1911, if so inclined.

I have a Sig Ultra Tribal 3.2” 1911 in .45 acp.
It’s definitely the most reliable from out of the box/brand new of any of the little 1911s that I’ve run across.
Unfortunately; I have no way to weigh it.

Well, I had to look and look to finally find a weight; 1.6 pounds.
Off the top of my head; that looks to be 25.6 ounces to me…

Wilson ULCc sadly discontinued as well.
Luckily, I have 3 of them, so I’m good. 👌🏻

Should be about 28 oz
Ed Brown EVO cco Is about the same size as the ECO
@Rick McC. that one is certainly close if not at 25 ounces or less, but from what I can tell, it has been discontinued.

@Matt325c I actually thought the two LW EVOs in the Ed Brown lineup would be 25 ounces or less but they are both North of 25, from what I found online

Yes, but I thought they were still making other Ultra models; if not, well excuse me! 🤣

I can't meet your 25-ounce standard because I no longer purchase or own 1911s with less than 4" barrels or less than commander grip. A little extra barrel length and frame size is worth the couple extra ounces for me. I can get close in the 27-28 ounce range.

28.2 oz DW-Valkyrie
27.7 oz DW-EPC

Not exactly a 1911, but the P938 and Springfield 911 are under 20oz.
Dan Wesson ECO is discontinued 😔
Keep an eye out. They still come up occasionally. They have a limited capacity compared to modern double stacks, but are still a fine pistol. I will probably never sell my 9mm ECO.

Stick a mag in the staccatos and they will be over the 25oz mark
@razorbacker good point... I did find a number of 1911s that come in under the 30 ounce mark.
@Highxj It is my understanding that the SASII UL is discontinued?
@Whiten I'm comparing unloaded weight.. yes, if you stick a loaded mag into most of these, they exceed 25 ounces.
