I'm considering the purchase of another DW. There seems to be a good number of commanders available. Having a Specialist is steering me to the 5". Any opinions or experiences with this gun would be appreciated.

I like my Valor (it was my first Dan Wesson) but I prefer shooting my Specialist over the Valor. I think it may have to do with the grip thickness. The Valor comes with thin grips. I have changed them to a std. thickness design with the thumb relief for better magazine release access. I need to do another back to back comparison between the 2, but the last one I did I still came away preferring the Specialist.

Great input!!!..... I also really like the feel of the Specialist's wide grip. They are a bit aggressive and I imagine if it were the only one I took to the range for a whole day I'd rethink them.

I have a Valor in 9mm. I just replaced the grips and grip bushings to replace the skinny ones.

The specialist is more gun for the money.
    But I love my Valors!

Do you think the change was worth it? What grips did you decide on?

Yeah.... but if it was ALL about the money..... we'd only own one gun! :eek1:

I’ve got pretty big hands so I knew I’d change them before I bought it. I’ve had four different sets of grips on it in as many months. I’m like Imelda Marcos and all her shoes. Plus mine is blued, so you might prefer something different.

I love my Valor although mine is in 10mm. It's my EDC and I do find the grips a bit thin it is still a quality shooter and a piece of cake to carry in a Milt Sparks Criterion...

Other than needing std grips, bushings, and a 1 pc magwell, I love the Valor. Of course those things are user preference.

I have been debating on getting rid of my 45 as I want one in 9mm, but I'll probably just keep it and save up for the 9 one day.

Right now I'm using VZ OP II in black. Need to get the magwell sometime. Though I think it would look dead sexy with a set of Wilson Aggressive Starburst grips, just don't want the wilson medallion.

(Ref. bottom pic.) I know that the Valor comes with some thin grips but those would feel like none at all. :D

Yep. And the reason my 2nd pic is with no grips, is because, I’m going to be getting standard thickness vz alien grips for it soon. The bushings are challis.
