what do you prefer and why?
I like the looks of a Bushing barrel better than the Bull Barrels, but I want to try one sometime.
Doesn't matter to me. As long as the lock up is tight then it's GTG. But the traditionalist in me likes the bushing for looks. But I like the flush but bull barrel on an officer size 1911.
Looks and easy of disassembly Bushing Barrel, and those are the only reasons.
I like bull for officers, but bushing for everything else. Not sure about race guns since I haven't shot them.
I'm always in the negative, but I always prefer bull barrel. I prefer the disassembly procedures for a bull barrel, personally. Bull barrels are always my preference.
And, the old argument of being able to put a new bushing may be true. But I would venture to say that 95% of people don't shoot enough to shootout a bull barrel..
A bull barrel only needs.to be fit to the slide as opposed to the bushing having to be fit to the barrel and the slide.
Take down can be easier with a bull barrel especially if the bushing is fit tight requiring a bushing wrench.
Yes. I hate guns with the bushing super tight that ya need a wrench - and even then sometimes it can be tough (if they are REALLY tight)
Bushing fan here. :thumb:
Looks and ease of disassembly, I suppose.
Bull barrels are OK, and have some benefits, but I much prefer the traditional bushing.
I don't like that either. I used valve grinding compound on the bushing of my Les Baer TRS because I hate using a bushing wrench to take down a 1911. It takes down by hand now.
Are you turning the bushing when the barrel's in full lockup, or are you taking the top end down first while fully sprung and then removing it while out of battery?
The latter method arguably maintains a good bushing fit, and also makes it easier to turn a match fit (tight) bushing as well.
I prefer the bushing set-up. And it's not even from a functional point, rather that I personally think 1911s have an original look with a bushing.
Got em both, I guess I'm too much of an old traditionalist. I like the bushing thing, tight is always better here, for accuracy sake.
Bushing, TRP has a BUL barrel and I find the break down a pain in the thumb:biggrin1:
I like how Unertl did it.
Bull barrel with no guide rod. Cool stuff.
Flush cut bull barrel with an 11 deg crown!
Yeah, that's nice too.
