I use Winchester Ranger 230gr in my XD
What about you?
I'm a Federal guy. i have friends that work at the plant in Anoka, MN, and they toss me some factory seconds of FMJs every now and then.
for carry, i get these from Streicher's. a box of 50 for $30? can't beat that! they'll ship too, but they are also local to me. i just stop in there and get a box once a month or so. i'll shoot those factory 2nds, then when they're gone, i'll go for the LE Tactical stuff. i keep no less than three mags full of these. one in the nightstand, one in the pistol, and one on my belt
Wow $30 for 50....not bad
124 grain +p Gold Dots in my Guardian.
Hornady or speer.... tap or similar... in all of them (9mm, .357 sig, .45 acp, .380, ect..)
Hornady TAP.. gotta love 230 grains of +P goodness.
Federal's 147 gr. HST or Speer's 147 gr. GDHP are my preferred 9mm go-tos.
Federal's FliteControl wad 00-buck is my preference for the 12-ga.
I've got a bunch of .223 and 5.56 sitting around for a big range day, to find my preference with the AR.
I keep Ranger for the 5" pistols mostly. I do have some Fiocchi XTP and Rem GS in 230 as well. Mostly I keep Rem GS 185gr in the commander length pistols, however I do have some of the more exotic copper bullet light weight ammo as well. I also have some federal light recoil/short pistol stuff that runs well. I've ran plenty of they types I have and don't have anything that won't run in my pistols.. I just go through spells of trying different stuff.. Ron
Do you notice any particular gains using the 185's vs 230's in your commanders?
Hi Billy.. I like the way the lighter ammo shoots in the shorter pistols. It feels better and seems to be more point of aim.. 230gr rounds just feel low and slow, for lack of a more descriptive phrase. It's like you can feel the bullet spit out the barrel with the heavier rounds.. Nothing scientific, just my observations.. Cheers.. Ron
First I go HEAVY on any SD load. Carry first and foremost in handguns Federal HST's with Rangers, TAP and Gold Dots as a second choice. Shotties all have Hornaday low recoil (1100 fps) 12ga "00" which aslo has low flash powder since if needed, it will probably be dark and AR's and 308's are TAP which are devastating rounds also with very low flash point powder.
185 or 230 gr XTP's in+p as well as the Critical Defense loadings in 45acp.
Hornady 147 gr TAP or Gold Dot 124gr +p in 9mm.
In 45acp- Gold dot 230 grain. If i run out its ranger T 230.
in 40- Gold dot 180.
In 9mm- Gold dot 124+P
Don't carry my 45 anymore. Do use it for HD got it loaded with Federal Tactical Hydra Shok 230 grain JHP.
Federal HST in all calibers. Winchester Rangers or Gold Dots as second or third choice.
Federal 230gr. HP for $20 a box at Lotus Gun Works in Louisville. Had them on sale and bought 5 Boxes. Shot two boxes in three differant guns and no problems at all. Wish I had bought more now.
In my 9mm's I use 147gr Speer Gold Dots.
In my .45's I use 185gr Speer Gold Dots.
In my .38 snubbie I use 135gr+p Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel.
