Is Colt still considered Colt manufacturing? or CZ/Xolt
Nope...Currently Colt CZ group.

But its the same old colt that's changed hands at least 7 times in the last 124 years. A colt hasn't owned the company since 1901.

Current Colt production in my opinion is slightly better since CZ took the reins, but it's not a Dan Wesson. They never will be. Why would they want to elevate the brand and kill Dan Wesson. It would make zero business sense.

Of the brands listed I would buy Colt before all the others ( just did actually) and some brands I would never look at.

For the allowed $1400 and under MSRP, I'm definitely skipping new and looking used exclusively. My bottom rung would be a good example of a Dan Wesson or a SA TRP. And...if this TRP I recently bought is indicative of the entire line, it needs to be bought at $1200 or less because it's going to need an ignition set. If your budget is $400 to say $900 then you're relegated to entry level pistols and there is no shame in that. But if a buyer has $1400 to spend, aim higher.

I voted "Other" I have 2 Bul Armory/Magnum Research 1911s, one in 45 the other in 10mm. They are fantastic shooters for the money, sub-$1000. Series 70 slides. PVD finishes. My only knock on them are the sights, which are easily changed out, which I did.

At this price point and a production gun its a base gun so it largely doesnt matter, whatever it is that you buy is going to a smith to have everything removed, replaced and reworked. May as well go Colt for the pony or SA if you find one you like at a great price, both companies QC is so shoddy / hit and miss it makes little difference.

If Colt is a "CZ-Colt"...why is Dan Wesson not a "CZ-Dan Wesson"? I don't remember anybody call Smith & Wesson a "Bangor Punta" Smith & Wesson or later a "Thompkins Smith & Wesson".

I've never understood the Colt hate that has gone on for years...holding Colt to a standard they won't do for other companies.

I've called S&W Banger Punta when it was and I am not a Colt fanboy.

Looking at that list, let's just say it's not a golden age for cheap production 1911s. And $1,400 really isn't that cheap -- you can get a pretty decent AR15 for that. But there are a lot of serviceable shooters on the list.

Personally, I'd save up a bit more and get a gently used semi-custom -- like a Les Baer -- that will massively outperform everything on the list.

It reminds me of the brand bashing that goes on in the motorcycle community. Lots of folks try to build up a facade of sophistication from behind the computer screen, but the really serious riders (I’m talking about IBA types with three digit numbers here) don’t waste much time on it.

I'm typically a Colt fan as well. I just bought a new Colt Combat Unit O1080CCU. Priced right at your $1400 on gunbroker. Not a single issue so far, and as accurate as I am.

I have the 9mm CCU CCO. It was a loose sloppy jamomatic out the box. Trip to Evolution Armory fixed that though. Theyre great base guns.

I just got the same gun. It so far has been 100% reliable.......but accurate it was not. The barrel bushing was so sloppy I couldn't believe it. I happened to have an EGW on hand I fit up nice and shrunk the groups from 6" to about 2-1/2 at 20 yds. That's just arms rested on my range bag, but a vast improvement. I didn't expect a bullseye gun, but it did surprise me. Really like everything else about it though.

I have four Colts(2 XSE Combat Elites, CCG Talo, and CCS M45 USMC), four SA(Vickers Master Class, older TRP SS, Cerakoted new roll mark TRP from 20, and a Garrison), Kimber Super Carry Pro HD, three Tisas, and Alpha Foxtrot. Surprisingly, the Alpha Foxtrot is the smoothest running and tightest fit slide to frame. It runs like it’s on ball bearings. The two TRPs are very nice but do have MIM inside. I will eventually change for Harrison ignition parts. I already changed to EGW fitted bushings on both and Dawson sights. The Vickers is a premium piece. As for the Colts, all are the loosest fitting 1911s I have ever owned. I tightened up two of them with fitted Brown bushings. Even the CCS M45 is loose and just like a regular Colt. I have looked at several Dan Wessons but just never really wanted to buy one. I did own a Baer and it ran well but it had a few odd things like crooked barrel feet and hammer strut. I carry my cerakoted TRP everyday and it does very well. Super accurate. The Tisas guns have also had their bushings replaced but still don’t shoot as tight as anything else. The sights on all three were off considerably out of the box also. I’d call them kit guns. I won’t buy anymore Tisas.
I think the Ronin is a great bargain right now, along with the Colt Competion line.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Dan Wesson too but their least expensive model is now $2K MSRP. That one surprised even me and I had to raise the cost threshold higher than I intended to account for the price increases.
