I know this question is asked ad nauseam in 1911 forums but hear me out-
Personally I find value in this question being asked annually... think of it at a "state of the union" of sorts... We can point to a thread where this was hashed out diligently 7 years ago but the question is whether that reflects the current state of 1911 production manufacturing (I'd argue not).
So here's the endearing question in 2025 format (but with a poll!).
You won't hurt my feelings either way but for me I personally find myself a bit conflicted on what even I'd answer these days for the present state of production 19111's at the $1400 or so price point & I'll tell you why.
Off the bat- I like Colt, I like Colt a lot. I have a history with Colt that one of their products left an imprint in my life that gives them an advantage amongst all others & it isn't even fair to hold this bias. The only fair thing is to admit that such a bias exists. That said- I own a lot of Colt 1911's (many in the price range being discussed here).
Aside from my past with them- I like that they continue to use forged parts for many of the major components, their factory barrels tend to be excellent for a production pistol, and they (in my opinion at least) seem to use the least amount of MIM parts for their price point. Not saying MIM is bad (that's a whole other thread in itself/even updated for 2025) just saying that I like the small "parts" they continue to use.
Being fair- as much as I like my Pony's, I was hoping that the CZ purchase/merger would have brought a bit more of the Dan Wesson "DNA" to the company. I think I'm being fair by saying that while I love their products it's likely not outside the realm of reality to point out that as a company they're a bit of a train wreck and have been so for quite some time.
This is starting to get long in the tooth so I'll break it up into more than one post...
