    Hey all,

I love the look of Ivory, but my bank account doesn't love the cost of it. What material do you think makes the best looking imitation Ivory grips? I'd like to get a set and have a set of silver COLT medallions (or those state of Texas Stars) inlaid in them to further personalize them. I just don't know what material, or what maker offers the closest look to natural ivory.
I think I would prefer the yellowish aged look rather than the whiter look. What do you think looks best, the yellow or cream color in these faux ivory grips?

If you have some faux ivory grips on your 1911, how about posting some pics? I'd like to see what the great looking ones look like with the materials that are available to makers today.

Thank you for your time and any help you care to give me.

    Larry

I've wanted a set of ivory for a long time. Too bad I waited until the ban came in. Since then there has never been a set of grips that looked like true ivory to me. Virtually every one is bone or cheap plastic.

I prefer ivory colored G10. It picks up dirt and looks very similar to real ivory after a bit of time. It’s very durable and doesn’t cost a ton.

Duke beat me to it. ^^^

Giraffe bone, while not an exact match, definitely has the appeal.

Is there any known issues with bone grips ?
Drying out, or cracking with humidity ?

I was able to get a set of O-rings, for the grip screws, as the screws kept working loose.

I have some American Holly from Duke Soprano. They take on an aged ivory look over time. It's like the older they get, the better they look.

Has anyone ever used walrus tusk ivory for grips? I have a full set, both uppers and lowers. I know that the walrus tusks have been widely used for scrimshaw, but I've never heard anything about walrus tusk pistol grips.

    My goodness!! GORGEOUS stuff guys!!

What does Duke charge for a set of these grips you all are showing? An estimate is fine, no need to be exact.

Thank you all for posting the pics of these beautiful pistols with these grips.

Yes, a quick google search helped.
Apparently they can't ship to New York or New Jersey though, due to idiotic laws and restrictions.

Why and how are there laws and restrictions on what kind of GRIP material you have on your pistols in New York and Jersey? Next question....if that's the case...how is California NOT on the same list?

I tell ya, my heart breaks for the decent and hard working Americans that are trapped in NY, NJ, Cali, Washington State and a couple more, and have to deal with the HUGE number of complete socialists there are in their state AND the MORONIC laws that they have to live under. It's damn near tyranny for those that love our Constitution and the freedom it gives us. So many people are all too willing to just shred the founding documents that millions of men fought, bled and died to give us and allow the government to control every aspect of their lives. It's coming fellas (and ladies) and we better be ready for it. I'm 53 and the changes I have seen in our country since I graduated college in 1991 are scary. It's accelerating every year towards a total breakup of the country. Way too many people don't give a damn. They're more interested in their Fantasy Football league and what place they're in than the state of the country they live and work in and who's running it.
Lastly....do you know that we have over 30 MILLION illegals in our country that will one day soon be given amnesty? When that happens, you can kiss the Constitution good-bye and all the freedoms we enjoy along with it. That's the whole reason the democrats refuse to do anything about the border and encourage the hordes of illegals to march right in. The bill that Trump was pressured into signing a couple weeks ago makes it almost impossible to refuse entry to anyone that shows up on the border. They're processed and turned loose into the USA to feed off of the taxpayers for the rest of their lives, along with the huge family that they will bring with them. Congress refuses to allow the LEO's to deport them and they have to be given carte blanche to virtually anything they want or need.
Sadly, the country that we all loved is gone, never to return. It can't be stopped now. Trump was the last chance we had at slowing it down and getting something done, but his own party and the democrats are on a seek and destroy mission cause he had the temerity to defeat The "CHOSEN ONE" and become the President of the USA.

Sorry for the off topic rant. I couldn't help it. I am just so sad about what is happening to our country and how little most of America cares.

    Well said, Larry.

Not sure but Altamont has some faux aged ivory that in pics looks ok. With Duke you know your holly grips will be perfect.

I have some faux ivory from Nutmeg sports that look pretty good. I also snagged a set of buffalo bone grips that came from Thailand. Neither looks exactly like the real thing, but they look good and I like elephants so they can keep their tusks (and lives).

It's amazing to me the Thai gripmaker absolutely nailed the fit of his grips when so many "custom" gripmakers products look like they've never seen a 1911.
