Who can tell me what this old cartridge is?

I've spent two days cleaning up my reloading room, a real clean-up this time. Among the things I found I didn't know I had was this old cartridge. Here it is next to one of my .45 bullets.

Here's the bottom of the case. It has a P stamped on it.

If this is any indication of actual worth, I'd hide it someplace safe.

I’ve had a couple of those; they’re centerfire.
