Thought I would tap into the collective Addicts intellect. Wondered if I should post this in the "random thoughts" thread, but what's done is done.

So, who, or what, were the Nephilim? Any theories?

According to Genesis, they were the offspring of the sons of God and daughters of man. Fallen angels and and human women. Word Nephilim means fallen ones. They were supposedly great warriors.

Offspring of fallen angels and the daughters of Adam. Lot's of debate about this though.

All you need to know about the Nephilim is contained in your King James Bible.

If they were important enough for us to know more about them,
then there would be more written about them in the Bible.

Don't listen to the "extra-Biblical" explanations for the Nephilim.
Trust your Bible, not your own understanding.

I don't know if you're familiar with the Books of Enoch, but I believe they delve into this subject.

I'm LCMS, but I do like & trust the WELS on their scriptural fidelity (they tend to be a bit xenophobic on doctrine, but they're generally good eggs :p).

On their website's "FAQ" section, they explain them thusly:

Also, keep in mind the entire human race as it exists today stems from the three sons of Noah - Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Noah and his wife and his three sons and their wives stepped onto the ark and survived to repopulate the earth. Everyone else and everything else that has the breath of life in its lungs that was not on the ark died. So, no Nephilim survived the flood.

Yeah. Inbreeding issues just started a few hundred years ago. It’s a great story and it helps many people but you can’t take it so literally. I’ve read the Bible cover to cover twice and a bit in between, so I’m no novice. It’s a guide for your life, not a record of history.

I'd trust a Superman comic book before I'd trust the book of Enoch
or any of the books of the Apocrypha.

The Bible is a record of human history and science.
There's more science in a Bible than can be found in some modern science books.

There are things mentioned in the Bible from 1900 years ago
that secular science didn't even know about until "modern science" discovered it.

Reading the Bible has no bearing on understanding the Bible.
You can read it a million times and still not understand a word of it.

Modernist Christian preachers prove that every time they open their mouths.

I’m not here to poop talk it. Just saying it’s NOT science. It is a way to live your life. It’s correct. Follow it and live well. Don’t use it as a reference book in the lab.

Science & The Bible get along wonderfully. Biblical archaeology is a fascinating subject, because the MORE they dig around in the middle east, the more they discover that proves The Bible true!

What DOESN'T get along with science, is politics. Politics corrupts science, and when that happens, you get nonsense like, "global climate warming change," "evolutionism," &, "the polar ice caps are melting & will destroy the earth by 2015" o_O... & the like.

Dr. Alfred "Rip" Rehwinkel was a doctor of theology who taught at Concordia - St. Louis seminary (LCMS) for decades. He was ALSO, a geologist, who wrote a great book about THE Flood of Noah's day, which has a LOT of scientific analysis of the geology of earth as it relates to that flood.

Of course, his Ph.D. in geology WAS from that little Bible thumper college... Michigan State University... :roflmaro:

I’m not arguing with you, it’s just a history written by storytellers reinterpreted a few times. I try to live by its teachings by being a nice guy. It’s not solid history or science. It is a great way to live.

It’s not history. It’s the history some king wanted you to read, if you know how to read.

Talking about then. I know you know how to read.

Maybe you'd better read your Bible for the third time?
    Being a "good person" ?

Mother Theresa was a "good person". One of the best.
According to the Bible, she's in Hell right now.

That's hard for most people to accept, but that's what the Bible says,
    not me.
