No my buddy sent me that. I checked with Eli and he said it’s seems to be all original. But I’m not looking to buy so it’s all Yours. Glad to have made the connection and send it to a good home.
Indian River sporting right?
Yes that’s where I called. Actually got lucky on the first guess from google maps haha I really appreciate you putting it out there. I’m excited.

Just finalized the deal with the shop over the phone. Gun should be heading my way up to PA Thursday. I’m super excited and thanks so much for sharing that lead.

Wow, the Power of the Boards.

I had one like that, built with Wilson parts by my FLG. It was already obsolete for IPSC when I had him cut the compensator off so I could shoot it in IDPA.
In fact I had him take off ALL my compensators and now my IPSC Modified gun would be allowed in IDPA with comp in place. Grr.

Yeah, it seems that magwells and magazine catches are the most commonly swapped-out items. Especially considering these were competition guns. As you mentioned, though, it's an easy fix.

I figured once I got it in hand and looked it over I would research what would be original or not. Also, I just think it’s neat how these early guns were all slightly different and unique. I’m just excited to get it out and shoot it. Plus it’s just an awesome looking gun to own. It is my first vintage custom and my first Wilson combat gun.

Fellow addicts,

I am trying to think of which direction I would like to go for my next custom gun. I really love the looks of the 80’s Wilson compensated guns. Specifically the two tone LE model like this.

Are there builders right now that can and will build a gun looking as close to this as possible? Or is it sacrilege to copy such an iconic gun by a legendary company? I could search on end for an original but I figured it would be cool to snag a decent series 80 to send off and have built. In the extensive world of custom 1911’s I’m just trying to decide which base gun to buy next and what it can become.
I found one on Live Auctioneers for an insane deal. Eli actually has it now. Sometimes they just pop up.

But I'm with you, I've been toying with the idea of building one. Having handled a few of them, I became hooked the first time I pulled the trigger on one.

I was 100% all in to finding a base and having one built until I fortunately stumbled into buying the original shown above. I figured it would have taken longer to find an original. I would still like to eventually do a build like that though. I’m sure too that an le comp style gun will sneak into ACW’s restomod series.

Which of his newer acquired le comps was that? The two tone or full hard chrome?

Yeah that was a heck of a find! Hopefully it works out for you!

The first one, it was a little rough, but the Auctioneer just listed it as a "compensated Colt 1911, two tone" and I immediately bid on it because I knew what it really was. I think everyone let it slide because the listing was void of anything "Wilson Combat" related. It went to a friend who was after them, but he sold it to Eli after a while because he already had his original Wilson LE and didn't really need two.
