For many years John Travis posted as 1911 Tuner on m1911.org and his posts were well worth reading.

Rangehot has a collection that is worthy of your time.

I love Johnnys no nonsense way of talking 1911s, guns in general and flat top guitar pickn'. Tuner has always been spot on, imho and I've always loved he insisted on being a "tuner" and not pistolsmith. Thanks for posting this, it may help clear up many incorrect theories on function that are bantered about
For those interested check out the video on firing a CAST frame and slide 1911 with no recoil spring. Should make ya think

He was pretty active on a lot of boards then just vanished. Anyone know if he is still alive?

    Now he does animal rescue.
Sure he's still tweakin' 1911's though!

I have been using small radius firing pin stops since I first read 'Tuners post on TOOOS many years ago.

So I spent WAY too long today reading several of the articles listed above by John Travis. Talk about an info dump!! I've been shooting, collecting, and piddling around with 1911s (yes, on my kitchen table sometimes) for over 30 years...and i was amazed at how much I learned today reading John Travis' writings. I strongly recommend this.
