If you could have a custom 1911 built for carry, how would you spec. it out and why? Size, barrel, grip saftey, finish, trigger length, etc.

Gov or commander, Kart, EGW GS and ambi TS, weak side shaved down. Chen magwell, blued or Cerakote over park, I like DLC and HC too. Rogers med length semi flat trigger. Front and back straps and slide top and other aesthetics TBD by builder. Rogers golfballs, Nedster whatever he wants, someone else whatever they do. Rogers tier one sights unless Michiguns build, then I’d like to try a shield driver.

My Baer 38 Super Stinger seems to work well for me.

The basics:
Steel & blue
Commander length slide w/ Officer's frame
Caliber: 9, 38s, 10mm or 45 all work well
Ramped barrel for all except 45
MMC Adjustable night sights, but now discontinued. Novaks will do.
Standard width grips, not the thin profiles I really like Ahrends "tactical" but now unavailable
Rear cocking serrations only
Ambi safeties, Brown or C&S tactical style
Brown "bump" beavertail grip safety
Checkered 30 or 25 lpi front strap and mainspring housing
Trigger at a crisp 4#
Full dehorn/debur to eliminate sharp edges. Not a "meld" treatment
Not looking for pretty or exceptionally finished. Needs to go bang all of the time.

For a 1911 ------ it is in my safe I like the 9x23 Win barrel.... Waiting on the holster right now.

Cimarron is located in Fredericksburg Texas, about 25 miles from my Casita. They recently released a Commander sized 1911 with "one riot one ranger" roll marks on the slide.

These Cimarron 1911s are another rendering from the Philippines. In other words, cheap and reliable.

I intend to get one to smooth out, replace the guts with quality components, and have Armoloy plated.

I should be able to bring it in for around a grand or so.

I'd spec it out based on what works best for me, that took years of shooting, experimenting with different builds and builders to determine what works best for ME

Government or commander
Kart Barrel
EGW grip safety and ambi safety with weak side trimmed
Blued, cerakoat, DLC or hard chrome - different finishes have different advantages and in part depend on who is building the gun.
Medium trigger, Greider or Rogers
Chen 2 welded on magwell

These days I would probably add the NH IOS system so I have the option to carry with either iron sights or RDS

After carrying a 1911 pistol for the past thirty years, here's what I've settled on.
1. Lightweight Officer's frame.
2. Caliber .38 Super / 9MM
3. Ramped 4 - 4.25 inch barrel. 4" bull, 4.25 inch bushing.
5. Checkering 25 or 30 LPI on front strap and on rounded butt MSH.
6. Low profile Novak sights with a dove tailed gold dot front.
7. Anodized frame, DLC on all steel parts. polished flats matte rounds, Barrel hood left natural.
8. Wilson BP thumb safety, EGW grip safety, Wilson BP slide stop.
9. Serrations on top of slide, cocking serrations on rear of slide only.
10. Short aluminum trigger.
11. Cylinder & slide Rowell style hammer with matched sear & diconnector.
12. Wilson BP magazine release.
13. Double diamond cocabolo checkered stocks.

4.25” barrel
Steel frame
Two tone finish
Ameriglo front
Blacked out rear
Bobtail
Aggressive front strap and back strap checkering
Single sided thumb safety match profile
Hi ride grip safety
Recessed slide stop
Ball cuts
Carry cuts
Flatten slide top with arrow serrations
Undercut trigger guard
This is of course if I could have only one pistol for carry I have several in this configuration and it is a winner in my book

I would have a Commander slide in stainless with a 4 1/4 inch Briley barrel and bushing, on an alloy Caspian frame with fiberoptic sight and plain black rear sight. This is the gun I would have Claudio Salassa at Briley build for me. Checkerd front strap and a crisp 3 lb. trigger. Oh wait: he already built the gun It is my favorite carry gun carried in a Galco concealable holster. Hardly even know it is on my belt and feels fantastic in my hand.
