It looks like he has had some weapons' training.

If his 1911 is like the one carried in Longmire, the recoil-spring is really short so blanks cycle thru the gun. He may be keeping his hands away from the slide so it cycles.

On another forum, one of the members said he has talked w/ Welliver about this. He is left-handed but shoots right (same as me), which is why he carries his mags backwards (I do not). Doubt he has ever been thru Gunsite or Thunder Ranch for proper instruction, but who knows.

I will say that his holsters get bigger and bulkier as the seasons progress. He is not a big guy, would think he might like a more compact, comfortable holster than that huge hunk of plastic he wears. Shooting days are even longer than his character's work-day.

Yes, looks like some training for sure. To me, the grip, movement and stance shows strong ties to 80/90’s modern technique including left index finger in front of triggerguard. LAPD (especially Metro D-platoon and SIS) has always had strong ties to Weaver and Cooper’s Gunsite lineage. In season 6, episode 4 or 5 after clearing a room, calling it clear, dropping to a slight low ready, you can distinctly hear Bosch enable the safety of his 1911. If it wasn’t for the backward mag carrier.... I don’t recall in any of the shows he’s had to reload and/or do any administrative work with his 1911.

Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch (Titus Welliver) carries a Kimber Custom TLE II as his service weapon. The Kimber is the pistol author Michael Connelly specifies as Bosch's LAPD sidearm in his later novels.
His doesn't have a rail so I'm assuming Kimber makes both frame versions?

ETA: I'm guessing this is the one he's using.

He used a Kimber until this season. The 1911 in season 6 is a Sig TACOPS with the traditional profile. You can tell by the external extractor and the goofy hammer that Sig used for a little while.

Hi,
Yep, you can hear that thumb safety click off.
I use SIG's ambi safetys on my builds and it does come with a nice "click" right out of the box...
More than I can say about others???

I wonder if this guy knows there's a bunch of "1911 Nuts" watching his every move?

Yea, that plastic holster sucks, if I was going to carry that 5" GM, I'd have some good leather!!!

Funny watching him trying to move around clearing a building while maintaining a Weaver stance. The “modern pistol technique” isn’t so modern anymore.
I’m curious on what you see that doesn’t work? I think for quick movement while pie’ing corners, entering rooms, and blade’ing toward potential adversaries it works just as well now as it did when it was being developed. LAPD D-Platoon (SWAT) has used it for years clearing complex structures with success. It also maintains footwork consistency when working rooms clearing with long arms.

.

Moving while maintaining a Weaver is detrimental to stable movement and being able to quickly respond in all directions. It is not taught anymore. What’s taught is more of an squared to the target fighting stance. Movement is neutral and stable. The platform suits all weapons systems from empty hands to long guns.

Weaver looks good on TV. You get a good profile of the actor and the gun. In real life there are better options for movement.

I just finished Season-2. When he and his partner are involved in the shootout at the cabin in the country w/ the security guard (who has a machine pistol), Bosch reloads while hiding behind a pile of firewood, just before the BG tosses a hand grenade at him.
