10rd 1911 vs 10rd 2011

Hi,

I live in a less free state where I can only carry 10rd magazines.

I own a wilson EDC X9 with 10rd magazines. Sorry to say I have been having some reliability problems and it is on its way back to WC for a checkup.

i want the performance of the EDC X9, an RMR and would actually prefer a little lower bore axis. Should I be looking at 1911 or 2011 since I can only use 10rd magazines anyhow??

staccato has a C and a c2. I can’t find a C DPO anywhere...

what do you guys say?

I have been shooting competitively for over a decade now and have done a lot of research and tests to find the flattest shooting 9mm handgun.

long story short, I eventually found/realized that the Dan Wesson PM-9 shot freakishly flatter then literally any other full size 9mm I tried. Even CZ shadows/shadow 2 were noticeably snappier then the PM9. I branched into multi gun and need more capacity so I started comparing 2011 STI models to the PM9 and it was still flatter/softer. Eventually the Atlas Titan was tested and is the double stack equivalent in terms of recoil.

Couple things:
The flatness of the PM9 (I guess any 9mm single stack 1911) is due mainly to its weight and where the bulk of the weight is. The all steel frame is CONSIDERABLY heavier then any 2011. Bore axis sounds great on paper, but in my testing heft of the gun and slide weight were far more important.

Ironically I am in CT and had reliability issues with my X9 as well running the 10 rounders. When I contacted them a well known rep there told me that’s impossible as it is the most reliable 9mm gun on the market. I took it as they were insinuating it must be user error. I explained to them I was using 10 rounders and maybe that’s the issue but that was met with just a grunt. Wilson did something to it (didn’t provide me clear outline of the work other than replacing extractor) and it did function reliably after that. I was left less than pleased with Wilson after that however

@JM44 i am in CT, too. Sorry to hear that you had similar issues. I am not very happy about the situation. To spend close to $4k on a pistol that immediately has return-to-battery failures is completely unsatisfactory. When I called them after the first 3 failures (i.e. within 200rds) they told me "it has to break in". Well, 600rds later it still has the same issue. It is literally the worst reliability i have personally experienced after owning 3 glocks, 2 HK's, 1 Sig and 1 S&W. I'm out 800rds of "break in" ammo, and have put mileage on a gun that may not be what it is marketed to be...let's see what they can offer to repair my view of the brand.

Which 9mm magazine platform is more tested as more reliable?

10rd magazine for 1911 or 10rd for 2011?

I’m guessing that a 10rd Wilson 1911 mag is pretty good. Are 10rd 2011 magazines an oddity? I figure that most people who are into competitions are not in communist 10rd states... maybe 10rd 2011 magazines are more of an afterthought?

I too reside in a neutered mag restricted state, being said I purchased a staccato P dpo (for when the rules become human in NJ) and a staccato C for the single stack CCW option. The C comes with 8 rounders but I just snagged so Tripp cobra 10 rnd mags which also gave an even better grip purchase due to the extra length. Added a RMRcc and x300. Just need to swap out the front sight for tactical height night sights.

I shoot mostly 2011’s on flat ranges and carry them depending on the situation but my main carry is a custom 1911 in 9mm. that’s even in a “free” state, though not sure you can call Minnesota a “free” state.
I have found full sized 1911’s much easier to conceal and carry on daily basis.
If you have a 10 rd limit I see 0 reason to carry a 2011 over a 1911

I can see no reason to pay the price for a 2011 if one is using 10 round magazines, whether there are malfunctions or not. The benefit of the 2011 is the capacity! If one cant have the standard capacity of a 2011 then I would stick with a 1911 and a 10 round magazine, just me though.

Doesn’t mean you can’t buy them here you just have to pay 2-3 times market.
