A question for people that have Tri-topped a slide before

I’ve never Tri-topped a slide before. Obviously as the pictures will show 🙄. Clearly I failed when it broke thru the barrel lug recesses. It’s also clear that I didn’t balance the material removed from the top vs the 45 degree sides. Regardless of all those newby mistakes the recess walls would still have been very reduced/thin. I would not have realized how thin if I hadn’t cut the .020 deep pockets you see. Clearly I could have just stayed away from the recess area with the pockets and there would have been no break-thru but it would have still been to thin.
So I’m open to any pointers from people that have actually done this before successfully.
I have more slides so I haven’t given up.

Thank you in advance,
Lance

Thank you very much for the depth number in your response. The flat on the top of the one in the pictures is very close to .033. Do you leave a radius between the side 45 degree cuts and the top? The reason my side cuts got so large is I was trying to eliminate the radii between the two and therefore it made me remove more than I wanted too and the problems associated with it.
