Another range day…

Not much new to report…

I did let another RSO shoot a mag thru each of the three guns and he preferred the Apollo. He’s a very good shooter (former swat trainer) and, even though he has never shot 2011’s nor comp/ported guns, he immediately mentioned how quick the Apollo was and how the dot returned to target instantly.

So the same theme continues - Apollo is uncannily quick and has fantastic dot return.

Overall for me, my groups were comparable between the Erebus and the Apollo.

I will say again that if I had to do a dynamic/competition style shoot tomorrow, I’d grab the Apollo.

ho hum, another 400 rounds today with Apollo and Erebus (and a bit of XC). Split between 6-plate drills, quasi "Bill" drills and some accuracy/bullseye stuff.

I'd say Apollo and Erebus are essentially neck-and-neck in my hands. Erebus is slightly better on the bullseyes group size drill, Apollo is better on the plates. I only started doing quasi "Bill" drills last week, and I suck at it, but the Erebus is a bit better at that for me right now - I'm guessing the softer recoil allows me to shoot as fast as I can and still get all in an 8" group, whereas the Apollo in my hands was not as good. Both are meaningfully more accurate on these drills than the stock XC.

How do you like the gas pedal in place of the slide stop? Any second order effects you dont like?

I really like them. I don't see any downside, but I may be missing something.

It does make ordering holsters a bit more complicated (I got the Joe Farewell from Atlas website that allows the thumb rests) and I've not seen a holster that allows both the gas pedal and a light (although there may well be one I haven't seen).

First of all, have serious case of lust / envy of the pics. Really nice!

what ammo where you using?
I've tried many, and posted reviews (such as they are) in my posts in this thread (see a list of the review posts with links in the very first post)

(In addition to the many I've listed in those posts, I also have been burning thru a bunch of Browning 115gr that I'm trying to exhaust...)

Good point on the holster, hadn't thought of that...assuming the gas pedal prevents slide lockback on the mag/slide lockback models?

yes, no lockback with the Atlas thumb rest. I haven't missed it, frankly my guns only lock back half the time anyways.

Fwiw, I really like the Joe Farewell holster. Used it yesterday for the first time for plate and bill drills and its minimalist and easy to use.

And of course they're sold out! Need to see what adaptor options there are for it for a true north concepts holster adaptor...assuming its adjustable kydex retention (non-locking)?

Priority One has them on their own website, with many more options. I got the Erebus sized one and it hold both the Erebus and the Apollo perfectly.

I got the Combat Loop attachment, but then got the drop leg for $25 and now don't use or need the combat master. So decide if you want drop leg before you get the loop.

Have you looked into the Antimatter Industries Wing in lieu of the gas pedal? I’m running one on an X300 and a TLR-7sub, both of which fit their respective light-specific holsters without any modification.

I need to do that, thanks for the reminder. (I really find the Atlas thumb rest very comfortable, but the holster issue and the lack of lock back are two downsides. The good news is that I really see no reason to run a light on either of these Atlas guns - they aren't defense guns for me, they are range only)

Are you running classic or premium mags? Which fit flush with the magwells, the 126mm or 120? Assuming the 140mm has the base that sticks out?

I run Atlas premium mags in 170, 140 and 126. The 126 are closest to flush. (see pic). The others stick out. I actually went back and bought the pair of 126 in order to see what the "flush" fit looked like.

[The 120mm mags will not seat in Atlas Alpha gripped guns. Per the Atlas website: "Please note these magazines are designed to be used with non-Atlas firearms. They will not properly function in conjunction with an Atlas Firearm including the Ares." They also offer a slightly different 120mm mag that is specially/uniquely fit to the Eos/Ares. If interested go to the detailed page for the 120mm mags.]

I also run Staccato Gen 3 17 and 20 rounders. And some Nighthawk 17 rounders.

All have worked fine, other than not locking back on occasion (which happens a lot for me, so I'm sure its related to my grip. Nowadays I run the thumb rests, so no lockback at any time).

Super helpful information and really appreciate the pictures! Didnt know which stuck out and how much...Knowing that, going to grab some classic 126/140 to start...much appreciated

Hey - your post about them being sold out somehow posted twice here and I'm not sure if you saw my other reply to you already on this, so I'm replying here with the same thing I did to your other identical post to be sure you see this information:

I did and been looking at their options just odd that they don’t have options for the model + a specific light…the only light option is generic 2011 with x300U so wondering how well that fits the Apollo for example if it’s not fitted for the specific model with a light

so the one that takes the thumb rest won't take a light also (just to be clear).

Their holsters that do retention based on the light will hold multiple different guns (and barrel lengths), like most every "light style retention" holster. So I indeed have the Priority 1 x300 holster and it holds my various guns just fine based on the light.

Consider watching Roger from QVO tactical's reviews of XC, Atlas guns and NH Sandhawk and others...I believe he uses one of their 5" generic 2011 light holsters and he talks about how it holds basically all the 2011's. Its a great way to go for a range holster. For me, with many guns that I enjoy shooting in one range session, its imperative as I don't want to change holsters constantly.

Also, because its possible the holster you get may well not work with every possible 2011 with the same light, try to buy a non-custom "in stock" holster and check to see if it can be returned.

Yea trying to avoid buying three holsters for one pistol haha. I'm holding off on the gas pedal so won't need a thumb rest compatible one. So the generic 2011 x300 priority one holster fits most your atlas guns and potentially additional lights like the TLR line not just x300?
