Build a 2011? What to watch out for?

I've built Government 1911s in 45 and 9mm. I have a Commander in 9mm on the bench. But I have been thinking about building a 2011 in .45.

Are there anythings different enough about a 2011 build that I should be thinking about or watching out for?

A JEM frame and slide seem to be a good starting point.

The terms are used relatively loosely, but a gunsmith's kit was a matching frame and slide. A short block kit was a frame, slide, and fitted barrel IIRC.

Call Jem and talk to them.
They will machine fit for 30-50 and finish fit for 60-90.00
ALSO they will make the grip portion sized based on the grip you're going to use.
Well worth the call and know which grip you're using before the call

Use a grip and a frame from the same vendor

Unless he’s going with a metal grip it’s going to be hard to go grip and frame from sane manufacturer. Even then the options are very slim.

Some of the good frame manufacturers are:

STI (not making frames only anymore but they’re still out there)
JEM. Good frames
L-10 (limited 10)
BCG (Brazos Custom Gunworks)
Limcat
Cheeley Custom
PT (Phoenix trinity)
CK Arms

The options are slim, but if you are a home builder, it removes a very tricky step. PT, L-10, Cheeley will all sell you a frame/grip kit that match, not only in contour/shape/finish but at the interface. Some grips require a TON of work to fit.

If you go with a Lonestar Innovations grip, he cuts it specially to your frame dimensions.

Also Glen’s grips (Lonestar Innovations) are a great value as you are getting a stainless grip vs the carbon steel a lot of other makers are putting out for the same price.
oh I agree. He makes a great product.
