Dan Wesson and Springfield TRP lineup. Which is better?

Hey yall. I’ve noticed Dan Wesson’s have crept up to Les Baer like money but I had great experience with a Springfield Operator. I’ve never had a TRP because I didn’t like all the tactical bling journaling all over it until the new lineup. Dan Wesson point man 45, TRP Classic Commander and a not optics cut TRP CC are all the same price used at a local shop… I know DW has no MIM but it doesn’t seem like there’s much love for the pointman? Which are you taking if any?

I’ve seen used Pointmans go for pretty close to 1k even, agree that there really doesn’t seem to be much love for them. The new run of TRPs seems pretty good for the $1-2k bracket. And given the gripes I’ve heard anecdotally regarding DW customer service in the age of CZ ownership (and I do mean anecdotally, my experience was actually pretty good) I would go for the Springer.

I own many Dan Wesson's and a TRP and I would never personally buy a pistol made after 2019. Thats just my personal opinion. All my Dan Wesson's are built from 2015-2018 and they are built right. My TRP dates to 2018 so I am not sure about current SA production guns. By me Dan Wesson is still priced accordingly from $1300-$1700 used in good condition.... I am a HUGE fan of both

I owned a TRP CC and I own 6 Dan Wessons, 4 of which are 1911s and 2 DWXs. For my money, I’d go with the Dan Wesson. Every Springfield that I’ve owned has either had issues or has been underwhelming. In the case of the TRP CC that I owned, it ran fine but the trigger was mushy. I did like that 20 lip checkering, however. One thing to consider about the TRP, don’t be enamored by its tightness. My TRP CC was incredibly tight. However, this was achieved, in part, via Cerakote. Once the cerakote started wearing, it loosened up significantly. Still ran well, just looser.

I recently picked up a TRP bobtail and I love it. I wanted a new carry gun and got everything I wanted in the 4.25" TRP sans a bull barrel, but I can live with that. Mine is very accurate and the fit and finish is truly awesome for a production gun. Time will tell how the cerakote holds up. I'm sending mine off to Vulcan for an optic cut for the RMRcc. I nabbed mine for $1k on GB and had the RMRcc laying around. So for $1200ish plus the optic I should have a great carry rig. YMMV

That said, it doesn't seem like you have a bad choice between the three.

I'll stick with my Pointman 7 . They don't make the Pointman carry anymore.

From my perspective get what you like, take your time and look in the used market, that is where I have found most of mine.
I have DWs, Springfields and Baers all fill the itch when I purchased, you eventually make changes to personalize to your taste. I have a SS TRP that I pimped out with all Wilson BP parts and polished, it shoots right up there with best. Also have a DW SS Classic that sports Harrison Design parts, Bunker Radial Bore bushing and EB MSH and GS, it shoots great!
Find what you like and can afford, tweek as needed to perfect for youself, after all it is a 1911 ;)

I have 2 DWs and a few Springfields. I like the Springfield Loaded better than the TRP. The parkerized finish is better than the spray paint on the TRP, and even after replacing the thumb safety, hammer, seer, and r3tarded "safety lock" MSH, it still cost less than the TRP. Only thing lacking is front strap checkering, but a little skateboard tape is just as good (but ugly) if you want a grippy front strap.

I have a DW Specialist and a SA Garrison, both chambered in .45 ACP. The Garrison was a starter .45 ACP for me, but I like it and still shoot it regularly. The DW Specialist is in a whole ‘nother league compared to the Garrison. It’s a great pistol. The only gripe I have about the DW is the dovetail for the rear sight. I looked high and low to try to find a rear night sight with tritium inserts that would fit that weird dovetail cut on the Specialist and no one - not even DW - had one that would fit. So I had one custom made by AmerigunUSA in Michigan to match up with the Trijicon tritium/orange glow ring front sight. Now it’s perfect for me. I’m in DW heaven!
