I've owned both. You'll be happy with either one, but I will say that the DW did seem to be just a hair higher in quality. Totally subjective of course. Oh, and this notion of owning just one out the window. Been there. Believed that. Now I have a Springfield Pro and telling myself this is the last one. Riiiight.
Where did you find your pro?

I owned a TRP CC and I own 6 Dan Wessons, 4 of which are 1911s and 2 DWXs. For my money, I’d go with the Dan Wesson. Every Springfield that I’ve owned has either had issues or has been underwhelming. In the case of the TRP CC that I owned, it ran fine but the trigger was mushy. I did like that 20 lip checkering, however. One thing to consider about the TRP, don’t be enamored by its tightness. My TRP CC was incredibly tight. However, this was achieved, in part, via Cerakote. Once the cerakote started wearing, it loosened up significantly. Still ran well, just looser.

Hmm. I thought all calibers switched to ramped barrels in DW’s lineup
Seems like DW HAS indeed switched to ramped barrels, in 45 ACP as well....
Uncle Bob has great info regarding anything that happened in the gun world PRIOR to 1979, ha!
(He also stated that Les Baer triggers are not good.... )

I recently picked up a TRP bobtail and I love it. I wanted a new carry gun and got everything I wanted in the 4.25" TRP sans a bull barrel, but I can live with that. Mine is very accurate and the fit and finish is truly awesome for a production gun. Time will tell how the cerakote holds up. I'm sending mine off to Vulcan for an optic cut for the RMRcc. I nabbed mine for $1k on GB and had the RMRcc laying around. So for $1200ish plus the optic I should have a great carry rig. YMMV

That said, it doesn't seem like you have a bad choice between the three.

Are the parts’ sources listed at the end true across the Wesson line? (Obviously if the model doesn’t feature a magwell, it’s not included.) Was curious specifically about the Pointman and the Specialist.
Not owning one of each DW 1911, I don't know the answer. My first hand experience is confined to the Valor, Valor Commander, and Guardian, so any comments I make on others would be purely speculative.

My only contention is that the checkering is subjective (I prefer 20lpi for example). However this is a very empirical approach to comparing both models and I’m unsure how anyone could arrive at the conclusion that the TRP is superior.

Hey yall. I’ve noticed Dan Wesson’s have crept up to Les Baer like money but I had great experience with a Springfield Operator. I’ve never had a TRP because I didn’t like all the tactical bling journaling all over it until the new lineup. Dan Wesson point man 45, TRP Classic Commander and a not optics cut TRP CC are all the same price used at a local shop… I know DW has no MIM but it doesn’t seem like there’s much love for the pointman? Which are you taking

I'll stick with my Pointman 7 . They don't make the Pointman carry anymore.

From my perspective get what you like, take your time and look in the used market, that is where I have found most of mine.
I have DWs, Springfields and Baers all fill the itch when I purchased, you eventually make changes to personalize to your taste. I have a SS TRP that I pimped out with all Wilson BP parts and polished, it shoots right up there with best. Also have a DW SS Classic that sports Harrison Design parts, Bunker Radial Bore bushing and EB MSH and GS, it shoots great!
Find what you like and can afford, tweek as needed to perfect for youself, after all it is a 1911 ;)

They show up in the Classifieds once in awhile, that's where I got mine. Once you hit 30 days and 50 posts, the door to financial ruin will open for you. My wife got so p1ssed about all the guns that started following me home after being granted access, that I had to buy a house with a huge yard just to keep her distracted.

She's got her house, yards, pool, and sauna already, now I can get back to collecting toys
