Originally looking at a Dan Wesson in .45 but now leaning toward 9mm.
My only reservation is 9mm may be problematic.
Going through a few threads and people stated it all worked fine after sending the item back a couple of times.

Now what if one buys a Dan Wesson from the classified. A number being sold are from the 2nd or even 3rd owner.
What happens if the 9mm is problematic in this scenario when not the original owner???

I am sure Dan Wesson will gladly work the issue, but are subsequent owners going to have to pay for any work?

Curious to know from those who may have experienced this first hand especially with the 9mm version.

I own six DW 9mm 1911 currently and have owned several others- never an issue of any kind feeding ,extracting or otherwise. My ECO 9mm is one of the most reliable pistols I have ever owned. If you did for some reason need to send it back you might have to pay but what would we be talking about springs ?
unless you are concerned about a frame cracking - never seen it happen- then I wouldnt worry about it I would buy a used Dw 9mm without hesitation. I am more concerned about the seller being legit than a problem with the pistol.

I'm not sure what you are reading but I agree with @Dwvalor all the 9mm's I have owned from DW ran fine.

If you have a problem, 90% of the time it's a magazine or extractor issue and those can be worked through with some help with the forum.

Owner 1 having issues then rarely uses the item.
It sits around and eventually sold.
Owner 2 buys it and has issues. Takes it to the range once or twice and ends up leaving it home and takes other items to the range.
Eventually owner 2 sells it.

I have been at the range with owner 3 who will either do the same or end up having to get it fixed. If it cost too much it ends up getting sold.
Eventually one owner will address the issues.

My opinion is this is where the gun industry is very very generous. I do understand that no one wants to take the time and effort to track ownership but I cannot imagine companies in other industries being so generous as to repair at no charge their product years after it has been sold and resold.

My opinion is when you buy something used you assume that responsibility

Heck, I couldn't get Dan Wesson to correct a problem I was having with a PM-9.....and I was the original owner of the pistol! Suffice it to say, DW's "customer service," in my opinion, is not what it once was.

Opposite experience for me. I have a 9mm Specialist and the the first gun I purchased had to go back. I just posted this in another thread but I had a new gun within days. I was wracking my brain over if I had done something wrong. If I omitted doing something. I had not. They didn’t think that. They simply took care of it.
That was my first Dan Wesson and they took a situation that made me nervous about the gun and turned it right around.

I have had zero issues since.

I will purchase more Dan Wessons and I have no problem purchasing one used.

I must be one damn lucky gun owner. I'm 65, have been shooting since I was 12, started buying my own the week after I turned 21-both used and new. I just bought a used DW A2 Commander on this very forum and it's perfect-made some changes that I wanted, nothing it needed, to make it appealing to me. Have a thread in the range report section if you want to see it.

I did have a very minor mag release issue with a Vigil I bought new and the gunsmith at the shop was able to get me squared away in just a couple of minutes, no need to send it back.

In all that time I've come across 3 used guns that had issues that interfered with their function. One was a Colt Gold Cup I bought used from a shop in 1980 that went full auto the first time I shot it. The shop was a warranty center for both Colt and S&W. I took it back, the gunsmith tore it down while I waited. Someone in it's past had screwed with the internals and monkeyed up the sear. He asked if I would leave it and he would take care of it-I did and he did.

The next was just a couple of years ago when I bought a S&W 29-2 on GB. That one would bind up after just a couple of rounds. The seller ignored my emails and phone calls. Had a good friend that's also a 'smith look it over and he found a number of issues with it. Offered to buy it from as I didn't want anything to do with it. He used it to teach his apprentice how to repair a damaged Smith.

The last one was also a Smith, 28-2, converted to a short barreled .44spl in the style of the John Jovino Shop. No markings on it to say who did the work. The first time I shot it the pins in the cylinder under the ejector star fell out when I emptied the first six rounds. Had it repaired and the seller reimbursed me. Kept that for a while until I decided I'd rather have a 3" 24 S&W so I sold it with full disclosure. It also no longer had any issues.

Guns are mechanical devices and **** happens to such items-sometimes from abuse and sometimes from poor workmanship. I don't worry about the factory working on any used gun I buy if there are issues with it.

Hard to say, but here is my recent experience with Dan Wesson.
Spoiler alert : it is Free of Charge.
Detail : Last few months, I got my ECO ( not sure how many owner) but it was 2012 model. I talked to DW rep, and was told it is out of warrantee so I will have to pay for everything but suggested to fill out warrantee form and start from there. Got Prepaid label, shipped, 4 weeks later, got it checked, shipped it back. Free of charge.

The warranty printed in the Dan Wesson 1911 Owner's Manual makes no mention of being non-transferable:

Only on the web site do they limit it to the original purchaser:

IANAL, but given that the manual comes with the gun, and a purchaser may never have even visited the web site, I believe there's a strong case for transferability.

I purchased a Dan Wesson (I was not the original owner).

Took it to the range after purchase and had issue after issue with the pistol. I tired 3 different brands of magazines and I could not make it more than 3-4 rounds without an issue.

I was very disappointed, so I called Dan Wesson. The very first question I was asked, "Are you the original owner".

I said no, they guy on the phone looked up the pistol via the serial number, said the pistol was 5 years old and said I needed to send the pistol in.

I would have to pay for shipping both ways and pay $150 for them to look at the pistol and then pay for whatever parts and additional labor if needed, depending on the repair, again even more disappointed.

I sold the pistol (told the future new owner the issues and heavily discounted the price). I kept in touch with the new owner, he said he had a good local gunsmiths (something I wished I had) and after two trips to his gunsmith the pistol now runs fine (he said his gunsmith replaced and adjusted the extractor, adjusted the ejector, polished the feed ramp and worked on the chamber and refit the barrel, he also said something about re pinning something but I can't remember.

That was my last Dan Wesson. I have friends that have Dan Wessons and love them and heck I have even fired their pistols with no issues, but it just did not work out for me and I have just saved up my money and purchased Gun Crafters, Wilsons, Nighthawks and even Les Baer pistols and while more expensive I have been pleased.

Not knocking Dan Wesson as my sample was a sample of one and many have had zero issues, but the brands I have mentioned except Les Baer, all have lifetime warranties no matter what the owner and I have become spoiled in that warranty policy.
