Went off the deep end last night and was reading everything I could find on the 9x23.

Does anyone ever carry one of these?

Im thinking about having one of of my 9mm or 38 supers having a barrel fit to them “just because.”

Shame this round didn’t take off more.

Any reason NOT to other than cost?

I always appreciate the lesser known or off the beaten path when it comes to guns.

The super has a lot of commercial ammo on that alone I'd say the Super is just as capable and stay that course.

If you had a .40 or 10mm, I'd say .357 Sig or if you REALLY wanted to singe eyebrows the 9x25 Dillon!

Jim Garthwaite was a big fan of the 9x23. Corbin used to make at least one load, don’t think the new owner makes one. Winchester has a good defensive load. I still carry a 45ACP
But may rotate in the 9x23 when my Commander is finished.

When I had my .38 Super 1991A1 built I had 9mm and 9x23 barrels fit to it as well. I keep the 9x23 barrel in it and carry it when the mood strikes, though I'm usually working on the farm and choose a more utilitarian carry piece that I don't worry about knocking around. I love the round, wish it had become more popular so ammo might not be so expensive but there's no changing that.

No, there is no reason not to try one out. I have a number of 9x23 pistols and prefer to carry that cartridge. In fact, I only own 9mm and 9x23 Win now because I find 38 Super to be unnecessary for me. Especially if you can add a 9x23 barrel to an existing 9mm then you get the cheaper ammo for range practice and switch in the 9x23 for carry.

The ammo is expensive, but not much more than 38 Super. I reload, so the cost is essentially the same to me for 9mm or 9x23.

Some random tips:
  • Spring your pistol similar to a 45ACP
  • 38 Super mags run 9x23 Win. Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, Tripps, Mec-Gar, and Staccato have all run great for me.
  • The 5" steel framed 1911 tames the recoil. Don't make your first 9x23 dual setup out of a lightweight commander.

I own several including this build from the CCS. Have a dual barrel, 38 Super and a 9x23 with complete sets of springs for both.
