First, Yes, Nighthawk does off a 10% discount for LEOs, retired LEOs, Military, or x-Military. You need to send them something (not sure what exactly), but they don't just take your word for it.

Next, I have heard of some retailers who only sell MSRP, and the LEO discount is a Nighthawk offering. Any retailer offering the LEO 10% discount does not receive any "extra" compensation from Nighthawk.

Finally, I have seen some retailers offer the 10% LEO discount just because they want the business, and they "don't want to lose business to Nighthawk."
