Curious if we have any fans of the high capacity 45 ACP pistols. I'm in the market for one and would like to know what others are shooting and their impressions. By high capacity, I mean ~14 rounds.

I owned a Para Ordnance P14 previously, but sold it. The investment to get it to the same place as my WC and Volkmann 1911 was more than I was willing to spend. S&W M&P 45 is another I've owned previously. Very nice pistol with the Forward Set Sear

I'm familiar with STI and their Edge or Tactical are contenders.

Not set on the 1911 platform and have the Sig P227 and FNX-45 on the list. I'm not a big fan of the P227 extended 14 round magazine, but like the optics ready configuration of the FNX-45 Tactical. It is a handful though. Grip size is pretty close to the max for my hand.

Is this for carry; range; truck; fun; etc?
I mean, if you just want a DS 45, you can grab a Glock 21 with 13+1, or a Glock 30 with 10+1 (standard but will take a 13+1 G21 mag).
In the winter I carry a STI DS Tactical 4.0 in 45 appendix with a 120mm mag in, and a 140 mag as the second mag. No issues.
Wouldn't discount the PPQ 45 with 12+1 either. Good shooter.
Ton of options out there.

Truck, HD and range gun primarily. Basically a self-perceived gap in the collection.

I've owned a Glock 21 before and just isn't a good fit for me. Tried to like them but prefer the grip angle on the M&P line.

Appreciate the input on the STI. I'm a fan of their Tactical and Edge line and definitely a step up from Para.

I like my CZ 97b a lot

owned a SA XDM in 45 5" BUT compared to a 1911--well there wa s no comparison

I own a Sig p220 and the CZ as my only non 1911s .45--that says it all

You could always wait until HK gets off its ass and produces a VP45...
Outside of the 1911 platform, the HK45 is probably my favorite, but it loses carry favor with me since it's large, but only holds 10 rounds.

I have an older RIA 2011 with GI grip safety and fixed sights that I love to shoot. It is a plate knockin, dueling tree, monster! It functions flawlessly with my 200 gr LSWC reloads which makes it
not hurt quite so bad after slamming 3- 14 rd magazines thru it in 30 to 45 seconds. I have gone through 200+ rounds a number of times with no issue using factory and MecGar magazines.
Love my Rock Pile....

Sorry about the canned photo:

There is a nice one in the Firearm Classified too. Challenge with the 1911 platform is the desire to bring them up to the same level as my current 1911s, which can be an expensive option. My Para wasn't bad but the trigger left a lot to be desired. Makes starting with the STI logical.

With a DA/SA or even striker fired pistol, I can rationalize the difference. The more I handle the HK45 and FNX-45, the less I like them. Probably exceptional pistols but placement of the safety/decocker and trigger is different enough to bug me.

Waiting to get my hands on a Sig P227. Don't like the extended magazine look, but at least the manual of arms and trigger is something I'm already familiar with. If only they made this is a SAO version.

Well looks like it will be the FNX-45 for me. Tried the STI Tactical and just too big for my mitts. I was able to work with a FNX-45 Tactical and this particular one had a much smoother DA trigger pull, even though it is heavy and much nicer SA trigger once you are past the take up.

The only .45s I own are double stack. I don't waste my time with guns that only hold 7 rounds.
Let me see , a Marine that doesn't like the 1911 that has served the corp since it was designed ( the 1911 ) and is ingrained in their history .
And a guy that needs more then 7 rds to hit something and stop a fight .
Good God , what is this world coming too ? :roflmaro::roflmaro:

I Own a STI Apeiro, wich is double stacks (we say double columns in France).
I was afraid of handling it, but it is just perfect even with small hands and you should not be afraid of shooting this. I have a capacity of 12 ammo in the magazine (120mm)
But: This is a pity to get a special tool to dismount the recoil master unit.
But: The barrel is fantastic (Schuemann)

I own a Sig P250 10 shot 45acp.
I have not seen much written about this model other than.
Sig had big hopes for LE & Military contracts with this model.
This all fell through after the pistol was tested.

My experience has been sad with this gun. I would not
recommend it to my friends. I have no idea why I wasted
so much $ on this plastic wonder. 1911s for me from now on.

No experience with double stack 1911s, but have had and sold some 227s as well as the FNX. The Sigs went because the standard mags only give 2 more rounds than a 1911 but in a far inferior platform IMO. The extended mags are ridiculous and change the whole balance of the gun. The FNX is HUGE and I was not impressed by the fit and finish.

Be sure to put the PPQ 45 on your list. Great size, good capacity, and a hell of a shooter. I put an Apex trigger in mine and am pleased as punch.

10 round capacity definitely opens the options up. I'm a fan of the HK45 but didn't realize CZ had an option. Worth a look.
The CZ 45 is a model 97 and it is a nice shooting gun. The grip for me was a little wide so I eventually parted with it, but it is a nice 45 and it is heavy so if you run out of bullets when your being attacked, you can always beat you attacker over the head with it!!

I personally own and shoot two 1911 platform double stacks.
A Kimber BP 10 II and a Bul Springfield. Both with 5 inch uppers. I actually believe that the receivers on both guns were made by the same manufacturer.
I don't have large hands and the feel is comfortable due to fact that the frame/receiver is polymer and there are no externally attached grips. Available mags come in 13 and 10 round.
I do carry the Bul Springfield sometimes in cold weather under a jacket.
Both guns shoot great with no problems. Weight is not too awfully bad due to the polymer over the same with all steel.
The Kimber has the external extractor that may turn some 1911 enthusiasts off but I like the feel and recoil of the Kimber best.
Each gun cost me less than $800
Just my opinion. fwiw

Can't speak on ds 1911 from experience. However I have owned a XD45 for close to 10years, and have zero complaints. I have the original 13Rd magazines and on 3 of them I have added +3 extensions. I have only 1 fte, but it gobbles up everything from wolf to Tap +p with no problem. I once out of curiosity ran it 500rds over 2 days, without cleaning it just to try to make it fail, it didnt! I converted a few glock and SW boys over to the Xd and Xdm platform. I still would like a Ds 1911 in 45, but always balancing price and reliability in my head

Para P14/16 here. Kit gun that was built with Ed Brown bull bbl. I just got back into shooting my 1911's and am going to order a Ransom Rest insert for the Para on Tues. A club that I have belonged to for 17 years has had a Ransom Rest for like 40 years and I just started using it to test loads and what not. I really want to see what this gun and that bbl can do.

Still Shoot a few of the Para frame P14 guns, as well as reworked P16 (10mm) That have been really good shooters, especially the Para "SRP" P14 guns.
The builds have been from the frame up, The carry pistol for a few years was a P12 with a Les Baer 4.25 top end, sorry I traded that off.
You can still find a Para Les Baer double stack, Make sure you use good Wolff springs, that is the only issue I ever had was with OEM springs.

Nice looking stainless and chrome gun. Old USPSA bud has one that looks a lot like that. They were the s#it at one time. I went looking for an OEM Para base pad so I can shoot in the Ransom and found all the OEM parts in a bag including bbl group and fire control group. I bought my Para from a work mate who went deep into building his with all custom parts and then got it running and quit shooting and sold it to me. I took it to a pistol smith I knew and had him go thru it and "tune" it up. I shot it a few times in USPSA just to get a limited classification. It's been put up for a long time. I know the recoil spring and mag springs are Wolff. The other springs and parts were "performance" parts bought from Brownells.

Marine 24.....
I have small hands and usually set up my 1911's with flat MSH and short triggers to allow proper grip. I wanted a double stack and found that STI makes many styles and there are several custom "Grip" makers that cut the regular STI grip frames down to their minimum size. I bought a custom grip from "extreme shooters" and found it fit very well when combined with an STI short trigger. You might want to look at this option. YMMV.

The STI 2011s are excellent pistols but like the fit of the FNX-45 more and hard to argue with a 15+1 capacity. Just picked a Trijicon red dot from Cabelas, so looking for a pistol that I can use it with and the FNX is already set up for it.

This will serve primarily as a range toy, and possibly one to sit in the nightstand. Can't see carrying this and prefer my ULCC for that role.
