I just finished building a chest for my cleaning/tinkering stuff. It's made of local red oak & black walnut, the case is app 16"Tx20"Lx13"D red oak, resawn to 1/2" thick assembled with hand-cut dovetails. I cut a pair of walnut handles to mount on the ends but figured it would park on my bench & not be moved around. After the clear dries more I'll line the removable cradles with leather. It's better than what I was using, but I'm sure not the last.

My Dad was into woodworking. I think I have every piece he made. His skills were more Og the Caveman Carpenter but a few pieces were quite nice. I'm using a Harbor freight wood chest for parts and things. Yes my Dad picked that up. I was at the end of the line when the Woodworking skills were handed out. I admire your vision and skill.

I have something sort of like that, Ok actually it's a cardboard box, but the idea is the same. I have a cabinet maker friend that's like you, he makes works of art for storage of mundane items. Great job on that chest. Anything I do with wood usually incorporates a chainsaw and an axe.

I started yesterday on 2 larger tool chests, one in oak and the other in cherry. Both will be 16"t, 13"d, and 22"w. I plan to gift one to my son.
As far as selling, they are too bulky to ship. The upcoming chests will be approximately 35 lbs because I start with sawmill rough wood and plane it to 9/16-5/8" thick for all the casework; I prefer this thickness to highlight the dovetails I cut and most wood I obtain is roughly an inch thick.

Yes, I built that chest. It is the only one I've built intended for this purpose and it was a design as you mess up until you're not embarassed to take a pic.
As an old fart woodworking keeps me active, building craftsman furniture, and tool chests, and I make my own grips.

Here's a pic of 2 chests similar to the ones I'm starting that went to a friend/custom knifemaker back in early summer up in MI.
