I became a mad man and decided I needed more then one DW Specialists. Thanks to an addict who posted the 2013 Duty Coated one in the bargain forum the other day. I decided to pick it up since honestly there are things about the older ones I like better than the newer. Mostly the lack of front cocking serrations on the slide. I understand why they added them on the newer models I just wish they didn’t 🤣 both are fantastically built guns though so that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

I now have two. Both are commanders. A 9mm in duty treat and a 45 in stainless. I also have two VBOBS. Both are stainless commanders. One in 9mm and one in 45. I like Dan Wesson too much, perhaps.
These are both 45. When I bought the 2013 one my thought was I’d sell the newer one but honestly now I’m thinking I’ll keep both lol

The older ones are awesome, I was trying to find a way to snag a 2018 discretion commander in 9mm with the 1913 rail yesterday but it sold almost instantly.

Yea I snagged the top one for $1339. It’s in fantastic shape just needs the sites replaced. I don’t think it was shot much at all.

I contemplated buying it when it was posted on the bargain section, it would’ve went well with my commander

I have a 9mm commander and it was worth the wait - got it from another member here with a couple upgrades and it aint going anywhere.
Not sure how many Valors I have but it is more than one lol
😂
The DWs from that 2011-2019 era were awesome value and very well made IMHO

The correct solution to the OP's original question is:

Correct number to own = N + 1, N being the current number owned

Happy to clear that up for ya! 😆

I had a Duty Coated Specialist commander 9mm and foolishly sold it. Was a very accurate gun and carried nice. I added a short trigger and thin grips so it worked great with my stubby fingers.

Only issues I had with it would've been solved with more training but at the time I just didn't want to invest the time in that platform when my striker guns worked great also.

Maybe some day I'll get another Specialist or maybe a Valor.

what are the differences between 'old and new'?
The pic rail is different no front serrations on older model, it has Clark style rib as well as flush and beveled slide stop on the older models. More attention to detail. IMO. The newer ones aren’t as nice to me other than the single pic rail.
