Was told I could use it to wipe down my firearms. I’ve never used one in the past.
Yes I wipe my firearms down but with a soft cloth dampened with oil.
Are these Silicone wipe cloths any good or a waste of time?
Can they do any good/protect the wood grips/stocks or just use on metal?
Or do I just toss it?

Used them for years, the problem is they start out wet and over time dry. so you never know how much is getting on the gun.
A friend turned me on to Birchwood Casey Barricade, He said him and his friends did Civil war renactments and their guns were out in rain and snow and this stuff worked great.
So for the last 25 years I have used it on the outside of all my guns.
A quick mist on the gun and a wipe with a clean soft rag and the gun is protected from rust.

Used them since who knows when. When the lose their juice, they still make excellent cleaning and wipe-down cloths. Add new juice of your choice if you so desire. I don't use them on wood but I don't go out of my way to avoid contact, either. I might suggest using a dry microfiber rag(on the outside surfaces) for a wipe-down before shooting.

(juice = cleaner, oil, etc.)

The old man stuck one in my stocking probably 25 years ago and I’ve been using em ever since. First one lasted a long time when kept in a sealed bag, over ten years. I was only cleaning a few shotguns back then though. Like others have said recharge em with a little Mobil 1 or whatever you want and they can serve a different purpose.
