Yes I noticed they wanted you to send a mag also so they can check for function afterwards as well.

Laugh, but I painted my NM M1A in black spray paint that was meant for a BBQ.

Then I took that beautiful stock off, and replaced it with an old fiberglass milsurp stock that I bondo'd my comb to.

One of the best semi rifles I have ever owned. It is even better, because if you don't know what you're looking at, you assume it is a giant pile.

Of course, I'm more of a function over fashion kinda guy, so take it for what it's worth.

 

I'm not a big fan of cerakote, in my experience it doesn't hold up that well. Robar has a black product called Roguard that holds up well. I have an old Ed Brown that had it applied to the slide a good 20 years ago an it still looks decent and that gun has thousands of draws on it.

I did see that Robar had a few treatments that they offered. The one odd thing is Both Robar & my LGS both want the entire pistol to do just the slide.

I told them that I would send just the slide, & they did not like that. So I told them that if a Machine shop were doing a set of HI PO Chevy heads for my rebuild. I would not even think of sending them entire engine. So what's the Diff? I only want the Slide made black, not the Plastic black frame. What are they thinking??

My LGS quoted $70.00 & 2 week turn around. Robar said
$168 & 6 to 8 week Turn around for Cerakote.
It seems there is a vast difference in pricing & turn around
times.

Just a side note. My friend bought the Kahr CW 45. When he
filled out the Warranty Online form there was no send or submit
feature. He called every ph# Kahr listed with no answer & then sent an E-mail so far no reply.
I do not know much about the Kahr pistol, but I do wonder if anyone is home. Good thing he did not need serious help.

Oxynate 84 from Brownells blues stainless. If you have tanks it isn't any more complicated than regular blueing. For best results pickle the metal first.
For DLC there are 4 or 5 places in N.C. that will do it. Google DLC coatings in N.C.

 

Check out Ultra Black at www.epi.com they have a black oxide for SS. I’ve never used it on SS but I have used their stuff on steel and it worked well.

Ionbond is the biggest company that does DLC on guns, though guns are a just a very small part of their business. The only thing about using them is that you have to go through one of their agents, like Evolution Armory, you can't send anything directly to Ionbond.

 

DLC, Ionbond is probably the biggest name in the industry.

ETA: Sorry, it's not DIY, but it'll hold up better than anything you can apply at home.

I have read about this process in fact not a DIY project but very durable.
Who does this process that you know of? I of course was wanting
to Do it myself. Parkerizing is what I have done many times, but
it takes Carbon Steel to work.
