Is a 2011 worth it in a 10 round state?

I have a lovely collection 1911s that keeps growing at a faster pace than I intend. What’s that called? Addiction. Right.

I have restrained myself from buying 2011s because I live in a 10 round state, and there’s no advantage to a 2011 if I can’t carry more rounds anyway. I tell myself that the quality of a really good Wilson Combat or Ed Brown or Bul Armory 1911 is at least equal to a Staccato or MPA DS9 or Bul Armory 2011- just with thinner grips.

It would be far better for my wallet if that were true. But is it?

I live in a 10 round state and have a few 2011s. I only carry my c2 that has a short grip. I wouldn’t carry a full size bc the Chunky grip would bother me aiwb. I like them though bc I have big hands and they just feel right. So basically range guns and the mag restriction never bothered me in a practical sense. constitutionally , it bothers me a lot.

I too live in an anti freedom state, yet i carry my staccatos. In the cooler seasons i carry my P and the C in the warmer. When im in free states, my friends/ family keep my un-neutered mags for me available. I would rather go 10 rounds with my staccatos than run 10 rounds with a glock or the likes of.
I say snag yourself a 2011 for sure! Experience the hype for yourself. You wont regret it.

Do you have to keep the full mags in other states? I assumed the ban meant that I couldn't carry them in public, but I had guessed they would be legal to keep in my safe, and maybe even use in competition at a private range - but I don't have any documentation for that. I suppose every state is different, but I have found trying to get clear answers about some of this in MA is not as easy as you would expect.

I'm in a banned state and have 2 2011's. I think they are very worth it despite the wasted capacity. So many good 2011 options for competition shooting nothing else compares in my opinion. You are right that the quality of a fine 1911 is equal to (or better) than that of many 2011s, but I believe they serve different purposes. I shoot an MPA ds9 ported for IDPA and its an absolute machine. I got it because I don't know of any 1911s specifically optimized for IDPA.

A great 2011 grip (Cheely) is the best feeling/fitting grip I've ever experienced on any pistol. That alone makes them worth it vs a 1911 in my eyes.

Agree with Capthobo. Sort of. My 2011 .45 was assembled in a local shop and came out a round nose only gun. That is OK for my use but if you want a carry gun, maybe not. I don't know any of the majors making a refined factory version.

Otherwise, unless you just particularly like the feel, stick to single stack.

Once upon a time, there was a 2011 butt with single stack magazine well. I haven't seen one advertised for a long time, though.

I have a Wilson EDC X9 also. Obviously it is dumbed down to 10 rounds, but even though the capacity is 15, I don't think of that as a true 2011 (or true double stack), just like I woundn't consider my sig 320 XFive legion that way, even though in free states I would come with 17 rounds. Am I being too literal? When I think of the Staccatos, the MPA DS9, or the Bul Armory Air, I put those in a very different category than my EDC X9 - mostly because the grips seem significantly wider.

as the other fine addicts mentioned above, if it fits your hand then it’s worth getting. Edc x9, staccato, beretta, 2011….I shoot them all great because they fit my hand.

Nice to see so many folks giving praise to the edc x9. Which is the finest carry made to man kind.

I'm on the if it's gotta be 10 or less, just carry a 45 bandwagon.
If you can find an old STI in 45 like the 4.0 Tactical or luck out and get something newer, sure, why not?
If not, get a 10 rnd mag for a CCO or carry 8+1 with a flush fit in 45. Thinner grip and easy to conceal.

That said, when it comes to range time, nothing beats a double stack in 9mm.

Picture of mine, a lot of nice features for your money, if your looking for a CCW.

I’m a weirdo and only load 10 rounds when plinking at the range. It conserves ammo since my kids are usually shooting too. So for a range/plinking gun I’d be fine with it.

Also, the 2011-type platform is really great and, by far, my favorite type of pistol. So I say go for it!

Edit: If it’s primarily for carry, maybe not. I think there are better carry options out there based on size and caliber.

It is very frustrating sometimes, but beside my work keeping me here, I console myself that if all the 2A folks left the blue states, there would be no hope of turning the tide. Most of my friends are shocked when they learn how much I shoot because I don't fit their condescending stereotypes of "gun nuts" who seem easy to dismiss. In MA there are about 1/2 million LTC holders, out of 7M total. That means that pretty much everyone knows someone who owns guns, but around here no body knows that they know someone who has guns, because we've learned to keep it quiet. But our silence (or moving to a friendlier place) only allows those stereotypes to go unchallenged.

Governor Komrad Flintstone pushed through a 15 round limit fairly recently. Why on earth anyone in such a state would buy a 2011 is beyond me; isn't the main argument for it capacity? Especially in a 10 round state, where a single stack already gives you that, generally cost less, are more reliable, smaller, lighter, etc. Makes no sense. Better to spend the money on supporting candidates who will push these lawless, communist tyrants out of power and reverse their illegal policies. Or, just buy a single stack.

Depending on what state you live in there are "pre-ban" 2011 magazines. STI made 9mm normal capacity magazines before 1994 and also coincidentally all Gen 1 mags are not marked in any way making them impossible to distinguish from post-ban magazines. These mags arent the best and require spacers and sometimes tuning but this is a solution for states like MA.

Im living in one of those so called purple states, it was real close a few years ago on a mag capacity law, It happened again this year but our Governor Vetoed it down.
A few years ago I went all in a custom LW Gov 1911 9mm. Putting me under the threshold and having a sweet shooter. No mag capacity currently but when I purchase a new pistol & it’s a keeper, some where along the line I will go out and get a couple 10 round mags, ex Wilson combat compact carry Beretta 92, just grabbed a few 10 rounders just in case.
I’m one on it’s all about how the pistol shoots, If Your after a 2011 I wouldn’t let the 10 round mags stop you but then again it’s not my 💴

Laws change, and people move...

Remember that there is not only that which is known.

There are also known unknowns as well as unknown unknowns.

The future may not limit you as much as you think, so limits with potential are better than limits with limits.

That said, no mag bans in my state, but I prefer 1911s and carry them quite often without feeling lacking in any way.
