Looking for a budget comped double stack 1911

I am currently looking for a double stack 1911 that is comped. I am currently looking at either the Alpha Romulus Comp or the MAC 9 DS comp (either the 3.5 or 4.25 Romulus and either the DS-D or regular length MAC).

Does the Romulus having an actual compensator vs a chunk port like on the MAC change much from a user's perspective? I have seen "comp correction" services for the Romulus that widen the port which makes me think that it's at least something that should be on my radar if I go that route. I assume that "uncorrected" the Romulus is less compensated the MAC, but perhaps "corrected" the results would be better with the Romulus because of a lower reciprocating mass? Please educate me about all of this comp stuff.

While long term I intend to do work on whatever I get, I was wondering which one is generally understood to get you more bang for your buck, as right off the bat I'd just be running it as it came for a while (I might get an EGW ignition kit as everyone seems to say that's pretty important). On the other end of the spectrum, which one would you guys expect gives you more room to grow with the firearm?

Thanks for your time.

For the price of those I'd personally would buy a Springfield Armory Prodigy. Just my $.02, but they look good and I've read a little about them and they seem decent enough. If your set on one of them, the competitor would be my choice. I've got a STACCATO C SINGLE STACK 9mm that I sent the slide and Bbl. to Monsoon Tactical for their Genghis Comp and it works great on the compact STACCATO C. It's not overly loud, and does the job to make follow up shots easy to mange to get back on target quickly. It just depends on wicih Bbl. length you prefer.

No experience with either of those, but the BUL Armory TAC Comp may be worth looking at if you can find one. It’s likely more than the two you mentioned, but far less than an XC and from everything I’ve read, a good value. BUL makes some doublestacks that are excellent guns, especially for the price. It’s comped and ported, which is unusual. FWIW

MAC 9 is a special buy for the price point, especially since you plan on making further upgrades in the future. Shoots great, back on target fast and with ease, not overly loud, minimal recoil and fits great in the hand. Only downside is you'll probably invest in grip tape/wrap immediately bc of the polymer grip. Overall it's my new favorite
