Every LGS has the Mossberg, but I have yet to see a Black Aces in person. Obviously, the Aces is semi-auto vs Mossberg being pump.

I really want the Black Aces one now, but am I just being silly or is the semi-auto version of these things the way to go?

Other than just a toy, it'd be for some sort of SHTF situation where you need something that can be concealed much easier than something with a stock or a truck/trunk gun.

Anyone have have experience with both?

Personally, I won't shoot my 12g Shockwave for fun, cause it ain't no fun for me. I even put the pistol grip and brace on, but still ..... NOPE! I am a smaller guy and not young, so your idea of fun may be different. I have a Beneli semi that I enjoy shooting. It's a world of difference. If you haven't shot one, maybe see if you can borrow or rent one before taking the plunge.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not a big guy either, but I used to hip fire my 870 & that was fun LOL.

No desire to slap other stocks/grips on the Shockwave. Defeats the purpose. Maybe some grip tape or the grip strap thing I saw online

I have zero experience with the Black Aces offering, but have been using tactical shotguns for a long time. Also hunt with them.

Between just those two I would say get the Mossberg. I have owned many over the years, and it a tried and true shotgun brand. All of mine have functioned flawlessly. My “go to” duck and deer shotguns are MB 935 Waterfowl and a 930. Both are semi auto.

My more expanded advice would be in two parts.

1- Forget the novelty guns and get a proper tactical shotgun with a pistol grip and stock. Being able to actually operate the weapon and hit what you are aiming at is more important than having 10 less inches of gun to hide in some hypothetical SHTF scenario.

2- Save a bit and get a semi auto. Besides the fact that you can shoot it faster in a defensive situation, there is another big advantage that many don’t realize. The semi auto action eats up enough of the recoil that you can actually shoot the gun more than once or twice without getting a black and blue shoulder. It’s a big difference in the 12 gauge platform. Especially with heavy loads.

This will allow you to enjoy shooting the gun and actually get good with it.

Good luck either way.

Have ordered Black Aces accessories, and based on the stuff I got, I would stay far away.

I do love my shockwave: payed for the SBS permission stamp and got a bunch of Magpul and GG&G parts onboard. Probably got more in parts than I originally paid for the gun, but it's my absolute favorite pump and it's made it through several courses.

I have a black aces bullpup style semi automatic 12ga.

It's pretty solid, heavy as a pile of bricks and so far reliable with 00 shells. The drum mags are pointless as they're too big and interfere with your grip (on a bullpup design) but with the included 5 rnd mag it's been good. I bought it for fun on clearance for like $250 I think- I'd rather have a Shockwave for HD.
