So, i basically configured my platypus. Need advice. Finger groves are an option as surely you all know. But, basically every photo or YouTube video out in the wild of a platypus I seem to find (just like the one in this thread)…they’re all lacking finger groves. What gives? I thought they can be useful in controlling the pistol. What’s the deal? How come I’m never seeing one with groves? It isn’t an extra cost, what am I missing? Are the legitimate reasons why? Is it simply an aesthetic preference? What’s going on? Any legitimate input would be sincerely appreciated…
Finger grooves are going to fit one size of hand perfectly. Everyone else will end up with grooves in the wrong place.

I think the target demographic is a younger enthusiast who's based on the Glock platform. He wants to get into the 2011 platform - his aspirational buy is an SVI Infinity (check out the similarly silly names with those guns). The Platypus is the gateway. He gets "one-off" customization (through an unlimited color pallete) like a 2011/Infinity, but can still use his Glock mags and the base cost of the gun is at the lower end of the 2011 range. He can completely avoid the added costs of 2011 mags - my collection of 2011 mags could buy three new Glocks. They're just prohibitively expensive.
It would be interesting to put a poll up in the forum asking this question, demographics of Platypus owners. I bought one and I’m a boomer, it’s a fun range toy and unique to me.

I ordered a Platypus over a year ago commander size with the new grip texture and bull bbl, tri topped slide 2lb trigger, the gun is a honest shooter, keeps up with my Atlas,s ported this gun and its even nicer now!! I recently purchased a 5"version same set up!!! Honestly for 2k ea.I don't think there's anything that can compare!! that's just my HO

Personally a straight grip with the new prickly grip is my go to,honestly perfect.I would recommend the tri topped slide, already has 3 windows per side cut out at top of slide so you can port easier and don’t have to recerekote after porting.both my Platypus,s 5”&commander are like this,if you’ve already ordered they are very accommodating for changes as long as it’s not to far into the build. Enjoy I think they are under valued for what they are…

After taking a 10 year break from single action anything I stumbled on the platypus and thought it would be a great gateway back to the platform. I got to handle one recently and while I really liked the prickle texture, I was really disappointed with the quality of cerakote. I was handling an unfired gun that had many visible spots of bare metal from just general handling. It’s still on my list, but I was definitely a bit bummed to see the “quality” of finish. The overall fit of the pistol was great, slide fitment felt nice with no wobble, in all reality I’ll still probably pick one up, but I’ll be reading this thread front to back first.

The prickle Grip texture looks very nice, but I haven't had a chance to handle it yet. My used Platy came with 4 extended mags, and after test-fitting with ammo, it indeed contacts the ejector. I have standard G17 mags that stop just clear of the ejector, no matter how hard I slam the mag in.
